Hello, I want to ask something. So recently, I just signed an offer letter for a protege program. I already confirmed to go by the early of next month. But suddenly, there's a family matter happening and I'm afraid that I had to cancel the job offer. Initially I will go there, but this kind of things happened at the last minute. Before signed the contract, I've already confirmed it with my family and they granted my permission, but when it comes to this problem at the very last minute, I need to cancel the job offer. So, will I have any problems if I cancel the job? I'm not cancelling it just for fun or getting another job, it was like I said at the top, family matters.

just give them a call and explain the situation sincerely, no bs
and ask for their kind consideration about your rejection and you deeply regret for the inconvenience

As long as you are really honest, they won't get you into trouble. I think the only thing I can foresee is just that they might not want to employ you within the next 1 or 2 years I guess but it depends on whether the person processing your cancellation is that vengeful.

U cant make it anymore worse. What reason u give does not really matter to them coz the end result is u not joining.

Nasi sudah jadi bubur, you can't undo what you have did on the offer letter and of course they have every right to go against you from the clause you have signed.
Only way you can help them now is informing them at the soonest possible about your situation which lead to this outcome.
Don't drag and waste any more of their time.

Every action have consequences. Just be honest. If have penalty just deal with it. What else you can do? Don't show up on the first day? Same thing will come out.

U didnt miss out much many are joining this program and resign after 4-6 months as they have received job offers with livable wage. Was it RM2,000 or RM2,500 salary? Just explain to the HR why you cannot join.
