10th April 2023 – (Hong Kong) Renowned Hong Kong actor Richard Ng Yiu Hon, known for his comedic roles in Hong Kong films of the 1980s and 1990s, has suddenly passed away at the age of 83. News of his death was confirmed by his family members in a communication group, stating that they had received a notification from the doctor that Ng might have passed away yesterday, and they were called to the hospital to bid their final farewell. At the hospital, Ng was connected to several tubes, and his family prayed for him. They were later informed that Ng’s heart had stopped, and the doctor used equipment to try to revive it, but ultimately confirmed Ng’s death with a signed document.

Richard Ng Yiu Hon, also known as Richard Woo, had a successful career in the film and television industry, appearing in over 80 films to date. He was known for his comedic roles and was twice nominated for the Best Actor Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his performances in Winners and Sinners and Beyond the Sunset. Ng had the opportunity to work alongside some of the biggest names in Hong Kong action cinema, including Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Andy Lau, and Jet Li.

In the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, Ng made a name for himself in the industry. His first major role was in the 1976 Michael Hui comedy film The Private Eyes, which was followed by numerous collaborations with Sammo Hung over the next three decades. In 1979, Ng made his directorial debut with Murder Most Foul, in which he also starred and co-wrote with Wong Jing.

Ng’s breakthrough came in 1983 when he appeared as “Exhaust Pipe” in Sammo Hung’s film Winners and Sinners, which served as a template for the Lucky Stars series. He went on to star in all subsequent Lucky Stars films in the 1980s, playing a character named “Sandy” in later instalments. Ng also gained recognition for his role in the Pom Pom series, alongside fellow Lucky Star, John Shum. The Pom Pom films were a spinoff from the Lucky Stars series, focusing more on comedy than action. Produced by Sammo Hung’s companies, Bo Ho Films and D&B Films, the first Pom Pom film featured cameos from other Hong Kong stars such as Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao. Ng played the character of “Ng Ah Chow” in the series, while Shum portrayed “Beethoven,” a pair of bumbling and lovelorn cops. The Pom Pom films performed well at the domestic box office, grossing between HK $17 and HK $20 million each, comparable to other popular films of the time.

During the 1990s, he collaborated with Sammo Hung in at least 8 films, including “Once Upon a Time in China and America.” Ng received his education in London, England, and returned to Hong Kong in 1997.

He was married to Susan, a British woman who was a stylist for Vidal Sassoon in New York and London. Susan ran HAIR BY SUSAN and worked as Bruce Lee’s hair stylist in the 1970s. They have four children together: Alex Ng, a successful live event producer who runs the concert production company INTERNATIONAL FIXER; Zoe Ng, a professional dancer who studies nature and travels extensively; Louise Ng, a professional photographer and mother; and Carl Ng, an actor.

In March 2021, one of his daughters was arrested for marijuana trafficking in a village house and later on 26th March 2021, Ng’s second daughter was also arrested.

In a lot of movies he would try to hypnotize others and convince them they could not see him. Never successful.
