 Half Bonus and Half Bonus, I got questions on this

My company announced bonus on Feb 2023, paid half of the bonus and in their email said they will pay the balance of that half in May 2023.

The bonus is not contractual but they said it is for 2022 performance.

My question is:

"Will there be a chance where they not going to pay the other half in May 2023?"

"Like what are the loopholes in this?"

Same like what happen to my sis .....
Say bonus will be pay in several installment....
End up after pay 1st part....
The rest is history.....
Say the bonus use to expend company, etc...

Don't know as the bonus not compulsory, just depend on company good will...

Got 1 year, say will giv bonus...
End up no bonus cos boss say need money to renovate.....
Even overtime, double pay also kena cut....
Really chinaman company.....
Worst is hospital....

Some cinapek companies does this thing...

Pay first during CNY... Says around June or July another round.... Later says economy not good... Sales not good... So much BS reason given... In the end... All history

This is the real reason. To prevent people from resigning. I stumbled upon this from a company 10 plus years ago. In the bonus slip, you can notice the smallest of font used for the T&C at the bottom. It states the second half of the bonus will be paid in the middle of the following year and if one resigns earlier, there goes the second half of the bonus.

Since bonus is not conpulosry, they can retract it any time.

If u not happy can go court to fight.


Or u can call labour office to enquire about it. They are helpful.

Definitely cannot win in court.
Bonus is not part of your offer letter. Even if it is on black and white, the company can claim other things happened.

If company paid salary late, can bring to court.

It works for some.. kind of how company plans to retain you but if the bonus is 1month or 1.5months, its an easy decision to jump if the hike is 25-30 percent

How big is your company? For my company that’s >75k staff, if bonus is more than 4 months they will split into 2 payouts for cash flow and stuff la i guess.
So kinda dependant on the company’s reputation

Parent company is huge but dun think it's more than 75k staffs. And no la, where got 4 months?

Im saying for my company. My company has staff more than 75k. When announce bonus more than 4 months will split to 2 payouts. 6 month will be 3/3. If 3 months will pay 1 time.

If ur company big then they cannot simply run like chinaman, later malu and kena lawsuit.
But if sdn bhd then got chance kena tipu
