You need to survey the stainless steel grade. Nowadays many standard for stainless steel and some of them contain only 6% nickel compared to the usual 12%. Some are just steel anodized with a thin layer of stainless steel.

I think its low grade stainless steel or not a stainless steel at all.

Thinking something like this type.Any disadvantages?

This type looks like in Hotels bathroom only...

Well...

From what I seen previously...
Hair could get stuck in the gaps. Or others stuff...

Flow of water not that smooth...
Need constant cleaning... Especially keep open that square "cover" thingy...

look high class, but when come to cleaning it is not so practical, you have to open the cover in the middle and slowly pickup the debris inside
this square one is not the worst, there are those long rectangular one is the worst when it comes to cleaning

I am using this for my whole house. You can get it easily from Shopee or Taobao. Most of them are made of SUS304 stainless steel. The key difference is the thickness. Most of the online sellers do not specify the thickness for their products. I ordered from Taobao and the seller sent me 1.2mm. So, I decided to shop locally and managed to get those 1.5mm thickness from a shop at Jalan Ipoh (though OEM is from China as well).

Usually, these floor traps come in set, with anti-odour valves and backflow preventers. This valve prevents the baclflow for the odour and also prevent rats and others pest to enter the bathroom. It is easy to open them as the set also come with hooks/keys that help you to lift them open.

The disadavantage for this type of flow traps depends on the size of your drain pipes. If your drain pipe is between 75mm to 110mm, then it is okay. If your premise is using 50mm or below, then, it is quite easy to clog.

I'm considering to use this type for my outdoor yard area, but the contractor said the water flow might be a bit slower that those normal type as per the picture in TS' 1st post.

Just wondering if anyone use this for outdoor and if it's good enough for the rain water to flow out?

Thanks

Cannot agree more. If you are a single guy then it is ok. But if you stay with family then you might need to clean it almost every week.

Not only hair but those suds from shampoo and soap also will clog it. Dunno if can mod the trap below to larger holes.

This one is the most practical.
