NO. You don't need it in-flight. Check it in.

As @wahlberg above wrote; it will be treated as capable to be weaponised on-board. Luckily, it will only get thrown into bin and not get you jailed for being potential hijacker.

they fear that some terrorists will take a flight attendant as hostage and threaten to cut her nails badly if their demands are not met.

the blunt swivel filer is capable of being turned into stabbing weapon.
also, who have time to check if the filer was sharpened on its edge, turned into full-fledged knife.

Better just get a nail cutter at the destination you are going to. Its not that expensive.

inside check-in luggage lorr. along with your other toiletries' pouch. it's not like you'll be sitting in the departure hall furiously cutting and filing your nail to no end....

don't tell me your jilat shaver, nose trimmer, eyebrow trimmer, earpickaxe, shampoo, toothbrush, paste, eau de toilette all must also travel on your person instead of checked-in luggage.

but many of these backpackers don't even travel with check in luggage
only their own huge backpack that they bring onboard

some of those stuff u mentioned, they can get a place to stay that provides it though and many are not necessary to them
but not with nail cutter

yup that's the reason for the blanket ban on carry-on nailclippers. so just leave them clippers at home, or check them in.

small nail clippers can...
same with disposable shavers also can but those with a removable old style blade cannot

Malaysia security is suka suka what they say cannot means cannot... no proper guidelnes, so small plastic one is the best, xray cannot find, can pass
