Hi,
I recently change my tm unifi router to the new wifi6 provided by tm ( stock router) Existingly i am only using old wifi 5 router. Package with tm is 500mbps. So far at home only 4 person use for work and studies occasionally watch tv box, astro, streaming and play games.. found that after upgrade to wifi 6 router speed improves.. i do have mesh network using deco m4 i didnt change.. just want to ask if mesh deco can work on other brands of router? The tm provided router is from dlink... will it cause problems?.. dont intend to change the mesh deco for now due to budget contraints unless really no choice..

Hope to have kind advise from sifu here...
Thanks

Shall be able to work with other brand of router..
Just turn deco m4 as access point mode and connect to the dlink router.
Dlink router turn off wifi, let deco m4 handle the wifi.

mesh are over rated...just get an access point. Use either wired or wireless method. Better signal and transfer rate.

Deco mesh is not compatible with other mesh standards

You got a few options
You can remove the dlink and only use the deco mesh, but kind of a downgrade since wifi 6 is lost
You could connect the deco via dynamic/static IP mode, but you're creating a double Nat situation, not recommended
Or as others suggested, deco as AP

Can if set as an AP only.

I'm using the stock Zyxel router (primary, WiFi disabled) from DiGi Fibre and Deco M4 as AP only.

How many deco m4 unit u have?
I using 2 m4 units.
1 at ground floor another 1 at 1st floor so cover 2 storey house.

If u only have 1 unit deco m4 then cannot setup this way. No point for you to use deco m4 mesh

If possible. Locate both unit in middle of each floor.
Then it should be able to cover both floor by each unit if ur house is not too big.
Then u don't need tm router wifi to be turn on.
Else defeat the mesh purpose if connect to tm router wifi. (When mmoving around different floor)

I not sure how ur setup.
For me. I use tplink as router mode connect to tm modem and Wifi off.
Deco m4 setup as ap mode, 1 unit m4 direct connect to tplink router so that it can get internet from tplink router.
And all my device connect to deco m4. So far no issue.

If above setting not working foe you. Then u just ignore.

dont confuse router and modem
Modem is usually Huawei, FibreHome, ZTE or Nokia branded (or some other brands in older areas)
I assume the setup TS has is

TM Modem -> DLink -> Deco
They cant mesh together so the deco either creates its own network or work as APs, bad for roaming

A solution would be to remove the DLink and have it be like
TM Modem -> Deco
but this requires some setting up, not just plug and play, also a bit of a waste of the DLink wifi6 router

Suggestion made by ckh83 is

TM Modem -> DLink (wifi off) -> Deco
Not a great option... because of double NAT, and again a waste of the dlink

Ideally, you should only use DLink OR Deco
not both

You could buy more deco mesh nodes/ Deco mesh nodes with wifi 6, or get mesh nodes compatible with the dlink, such as the D-Link DIR-X3000Z

Unfortunately it seems like the DLink is not EasyMesh compatible, which is the open standard for mesh

maybe just sell off the deco mesh and get the dlink as node
so you will have a TM Modem -> TM Provided Dlink + other DLink as mesh

or if you're happy with your current dlink + deco setup, then you could keep it
