Skillful & honest mechanic etc...

There is no truly reliable motortiam. They are all humans. People change.
Suggest you bring to a few shops and ask their opinion what needs to be fixed. Get a quote, and trust your guts.

I think OP's main concern is the amount of unethical mechanics out there that may not do a proper job.

You'd be far better off asking in an owners' community Facebook page, there's just not as many people using forums.
