After about a year of using the TNB smart meter, my experience is that the TNB smart meter monthly consumption figure is consistently around 15% LOWER than my previous meter.

yes, mine is lower too, actually i already been informed that my old meter were ran 20% faster few months before kena forced to change with smart meter.

I never check the blinking rate of my TNB smart meter.

Perhaps yours is blinking faster because your house consumes more electricity than your neighbour?

Same. I wanted to install solar after they changed to the new meter. Prior to changing my bill is around rm800-900 monthly. Now my bill only around 500. Since then never thought of getting solar anymore.

for the newer smart meter, you can click the button multiple time until you see 'A' figure.
check for how much those value ya.
also smart meter have two sets of led, one of it is transceiver, another one is on meter itself. the transceiver one no need to bother.

the old meter calibration should lari wan after many years.
its either go faster or go slower.

I guess that is the MAIN reason TNB wants us to change to the new digital smart meter

unless you are suspecting that the meter is broken, then there is no need to change meter.
eventually they will change it sooner or later.

No harm asking TNB to change. Only takes about half an hour by the TNB contractor.

over the past one year. Since changing the meter. The lowest it has ever gone to is around 300+. We got shocked as well as our usage is still normal. But that only occur twice. Then again I am not complaining haha

can, but must do before installation. my neighbor did it, the guy did some soldering on the board and put back meter together with temper proof sticker .
how i know, because neighbor ask pinjam eletricity with extension cords for soldering.

Mine changed about 6weeks ago, still waiting for MyTNB app update, last month bill charges still remain the same prior to meter change.

he did the job same day after the tnb installed new meter.

My sister said she cannot see whether her meter inside the TNB meter room is a normal analog meter or a smart meter.

My guess is that they have all been changed to the smart meter type.

my analogue meter been spinning over 40 years, monthly bill is around RM60-70. I expect it should go slower when getting older. So haven't change the meter even TNB knocking my door for several times. Think not worth the risk.

Mine was the black ones, over 30 years before it was replaced last September IIRC. I think mine lari quite a bit. Then I have to change some appliances to newer one to reduce the usage.

The meter reading is still zero.

To me definitely lower, a house that runs 3 fridges and a freezer plus 5 airconds running nightly. Bill is around rm700 ++ .
If the old analog meter definitely the bill will be surplus of rm1k already.

Now, buy those grid tie inverter and get few solar panels.

What is a backstop?

Backstop. It is a mechanism to prevent meter from running backward.

Example, without net metering, if you install solar panel with grid tie inverter and your system produce/export more than you use, the analog meter with backstop mechanism simply stops there.

Digital meter only measures total power regardless of import/export direction. If your house use digital meter, it will count the power that you export as your own consumption, meaning you are double billed.
