Ask her what she's doing until 3am first. You don't seem to know what she's actually doing even if you say "almost nothing". Remember, your own definition of "productive activity" might not be the same as hers.

I agree with your viewpoint.

I suspect she's either playing computer or mobile phone games, or else watching ALL kinds of weird videos on the Net?

First I applaud TS for wanting to be a good brother to your sister?

But I would suggest that you might wanna tone down a bit on the calling her lazy part?

Neither useful nor helpful.

Another thing is what kinda work are your family members expecting from her AFTER she completed her project and finally managed to graduate?? (Wow! I didn't even realise that the final year project can drag on for this amount of time??)

I suspect she herself has no clue.

If you wanna motivate her to complete her uni studies, maybe you can start here??

Anyway whatever happened to her first final year project? Because you mentioned she is repeating this subject.

The professors failed her?

Any reason(s) they gave?

Or else start a new thread here in kopitiam and ask for input.

On the kinda stuff she can and should include in her final year thesis.

BTW it's a thesis, not a project.

Uni life is supposed to be fun, no?  biggrin.gif
Total freedom. You're in charge of your life. Period.

No one is going to wake you up to go to class. No one cares if you go to class.

I don't recall having your kinda mentality.

To me it was just the beginning of adulthood with its corresponding responsibilities, freedom, rights etc.

I don't know. I suppose it's different living on your own.
But it sucks when you fall sick or injure yourself.
You want your mom to do stuff for you but you have to suck it up and deal with it on your own.

I didn't stay on my own during the 4 years of uni life in Sydney.

I was totally HOMESICK!!

Anyway I stayed in the students' hostel for ALL 4 years and went to church on Sundays to try get over my homesickness. And also to try make some human connections.

what you study in degree?
you got scholarship?
do you like Australia or sg more ?
*
I studied electrical engineering. Yes, I got the Australian government's full scholarship. If not I wouldn't have gone.

I was born in Singapore and grew up there. Guess I much prefer the foods in SG la!

I did stay in halls too. So many activities, no? Esp during orientation. Barbies and beer, toga parties.
And all the MY, SG, HK student unions will organize activities like Asian Night at clubs, trips like skiing at Blue Mtns, Ayers Rock.
Plus my friends liked to frequent the casino which wasn't such a good idea now that I'm wiser but at the time YOLO.
We went to strip clubs, movies, and one of my Indonesian friends was addicted to brothels and kept pestering me to go but I didn't.

Anyway, I was never homesick and TS's sister is pretty good if all she's doing is staying up late playing games I think.
*
The hostel I stayed is called the Women's College in Sydney University.

I don't think there was a casino or any strip clubs at my time?? I was there from 1991-1994. But yes I did go to the Asian night dinners, watched a few movies and also went skiing at Blue Mountain or maybe the location was in Canberra. Not sure anymore. I didn't manage to go to Ayers Rock though.

TS's sister is staying with her family members during her uni days. And so is definitely leading a very different life from overseas students. Even though she is just staying up late and playing online games, I feel her lack of motivation and discipline is indeed worrying and will be the stumbling block for her graduation.
