staffing issue seems to be better now compared to a year ago. instead of 2-3 people now at least got 4-5. but service quailty still very branch dependent. and prices now no longer cheap compared to a year ago, mcD sometimes better.

99 is a supermarket, 7e is a convenience store, apples and orange. in fact 99 prices for some of their items are even lower than some items in tescolotus and hypermart.

chinese also. only ones that are still around are because they bought the shoplot long ago, they content to just buka kedai and pass the time with breakeven profit. when they die or retire the kedai will close for good.

I do see some innovations/differences in their biz model compared to old minimart style biz. number one is the stock turnover. they carry very limited but very high demand basic need items only. very different from your old style kedai runcit. no need to say their location always in high footfall traffic areas. basically they brought JIT inventory mgmt to minimart biz at scale to malaysia.
