Hye All,

I just want to see from a different perspective from different person.

So recently one of the company called me and say Im good fit for what they looking for and asked me if i interested. I quickly say yes.

I dont really feeling like going actually from the beginning, so i asked for crazy amount of expected salary (40% increment from current salary) and to my surprise they actually said im selected for the post after 3 days of IV. i was so shocked because i thought they will reject my application due to the salary i requested.

Since i got the offer and they willing to pay me that much, now im indecisive.

My current job is considered good, i had agreement with my current boss to WFH 4 days in a week and he is always flexible. I really like WFH because i save time alot from commuting to office which can waste about 3 hours everyday. Now i really do feel i have work life balance and this is what i always look for a long time previously. Its not i hate to be in office but i hate the commuting which is just a waste of time plus tiring.

So in new company i have to be in the office every day but with with RM5k different in salary is really something to think about.

My end goal, i dont want to work in corporate forever and already starting my business now. By having this time flexibility is really helpful to me in aiming for that.

Corporate world is not for me, office politics and kiss assess + i hate when people telling me and force me what to do. But i can work better if given responsibility instead of instructions.

But if i decline this opportunity I'm afraid i will regret it because for my age and experience, really hard to get that amount of increment already, im still young at early 30 years old working in IT line.

That extra income also can help me contribute to my capital injection to the business, but I will lose my time.

Hope you can give your perspective.

Cheers! TQ notworthy.gif

Few questions:
1) Is the new company a reputable company? Since you didn't mention any names, what's the employee feedback on Glassdoor, etc.?
2) Have you asked your new company about their WFH flexibility? Or die-die need to be in office 5 days a week.
3) With the business you're starting, can you compensate yourself with the additional RM5k increment they are offering? Did you calculate the additional EPF, etc.?
*
1) is a lesser known bank in MY. I managed to ask my ex-collegue who is working there yesterday. He said this company bit old school and lot of manual processing and also sometimes laid back (i think this depend on what department your on). Employee feedback from glassdoor etc alot mentioned about salary is not according to the market but for my case is above the market.

2) die die must be in office 5 days a week haha... its the culture there... very hard to change culture and the mindset. dont trust employee kind of culture (what i read from glassdoor)

3) my business im starting is in very early phase, managed to get some partners few weeks ago, but im positive i can have addition rm5k out of it per month but without epf employer contribution included.

It seems like you are a high income earner, so you can most likely to let go of that 5k for better working lifestyle and focus on your business.

that what my heart says... but my mind says otherwise when see the money $$ haha rclxub.gif but its pretty sure very hard for me to get another 40% increment next time... im at my ceiling already... and what if business go side way...

40% 5K increment is too hard to pass, accept it, even u dont like the job u can find new job with higher last draw salary on resume. Current company also might give u a pay raise asking u to stay. With 5K u can also relocate nearer to office. Ur current WFH policy can always change by management unless is in ur appointment letter. At 30s is time to work hard not get comfortable yet.

yah right its too hard to pass... but i got abit concern bcoz with my age and year of experience im hitting the ceilling market rate already for my job. i dont think many company can hire me with higher salary than this if i want to jump nxt time.

current company wont give another pay rise bcoz i jst recently got a pay rise. and you are right i thought about that too, i can relocate nearer to the office but again its not about commuting alone. i forgot to mention the most important factor here... the time with my family... it is not that i want to be comfortable much but i just want to have more time with my dad... i worked hard in my 20s i dont have time with my family... im not coming from a rich background... so sad that my mom passed away and i nver been able to repay her and spend on her to life more comfortable... i regret everytime i think about it this and i dont want to do the same to my dad... now i have time for my dad, i went back to my hometown every 2 weeks and sometimes bring him here and there (because im able to work anywere)... my dad is all alone now in kampung...

guys thanks for your feedback! i just hope my reading here can give me reassurance of what im going to decide later... notworthy.gif
