Unable to fly through Russian airspace because of the war in Ukraine, U.S. airlines are stepping up a lobbying campaign on Capitol Hill and at the White House to address what they say is a growing problem: They are losing business to foreign competitors who can take passengers between the United States and Asia faster and more cheaply. Now airlines are pressing the White House and Congress to fix the problem by subjecting foreign carriers from nations not already banned from Russian airspace to the same restrictions applied to U.S. airlines, effectively forcing them to fly the same routes as their American competitors. big lol

Note that AFAIK there is no official ban on US flights over Russia. The airlines themselves voluntarily taken that decision to show 'solidarity with Ukraine.'
Now airlines (mostly from Asia) who declined to follow suit stepped into the vacant market and making big profit due to the self-ban, US airlines butthurt and now lobby White House so that everyone else also cannot not fly over Russia and also suffer like they did.
HAHAHAHA

What is dumb is that the US airlines are self-banning to show 'solidarity with Ukraine'.
Nobody is stopping them to land in Moscow tomorrow if they so choose.

QUOTE(James831 @ Mar 18 2023, 08:18 PM) why don't the US Airlines unbanned themself to fly over russian airspace? u handicap youreself and lost money for it , so now u want the government to handicap others airlines so they also suffer like u???? That's why its dumb for businesses to voluntarily withdraw from Russian market just to show 'solidarity with Ukraine'. Being in danger of legally sanctioned is one thing, voluntarily leaving the market is another. You're just leaving a vacuum for other pipul to fill. While true Russia is not the biggest or most lucrative economy around, they aren't exactly small fry either. Now China and India expanding their businesses to Russia and enriching themselves in the absence of western competitors.

Here's an example on how this works: Now US airlines want to force the indian airline to also follow its longer route, due to 'unfair competition'. WTF This post has been edited by MilitaryMadness: Mar 18 2023, 10:46 PM
