Planning to buy a new C-segment SUV in 2023. Seems like there are not much choices in the market. Feel free to suggest if there's any other.
X70 and Tiguan will not be consider because of rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif erm not my cup of tea grin.gifgrin.gif
I've tested the current version of CRV and CX5. Will list down the pros and cons below. (both is only 1 level up from the low spec)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRV 1.5T 2WD Pros (compare to cx5)
- Big leg room
- Better acceleration (1.5T)
- Honda Sensing featured
- 18" rim and full LED
CRV Cons (compare to cx5)
- bad interior and no blind spot monitoring (compare to cx5)
- less comfort seats and short leg support (compare to cx5)
- Feeling Not solid chassis and absorber
- Can feel body roll during cornering
- RM170k otr with insurance (current generation)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CX5 2.0 High 2WD Pros (compare to CRV)
- Good interior with blind spot monitoring
- Good handling with GVC, solid chassis , good sound proof and less body roll
- Honda Sensing featured
- 360camera
- Good seats support
- RM165k otr with insurance and also FOC 5 years warranty (current generation)
CX5 Cons (compare to CRV)
- 17" rim
- Less Spacious especially 2nd row
- Less acceleration power
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feel free to share the experience and thoughts about this 2 cars.
In my opinion, for current generation, CX5 is much better compare to CRV. But it seems like the new gen are coming for both. CRV2023 being caught tested on the road, I believe it will be launch end of this year or next year maybe. But for CX5, i heard last year it will be in Malaysia 2023 first quarter but no news heard. I ask Mazda SA she told me BERMAZ NOT GONNA BRING CX5 THIS FACELIFT into malaysia icon_question.gif Is that true?!?! Anyone have trusted source about this? I love the DRL so much cry.gif

I’m waiting (praying) for CX-50 to come to our markets. It’d be perfect.

One con of the CX5 or rather mazda is the gear oil issue which Mazda claimed no need to change over life of the car and warranty can be voided if the owner try to change even in the official service center.

But in your pros of CRV you highlighted better acceleration. But if you compare against say the CX5 2.5, 2.5T or 2.2TD, believe that the crv will lose due to nature of the CVT gearbox

Also all things being equal, the CRV 1.5T will have better fuel economy compared to the CX5 2.0

of course, the boot size of the CRV is much bigger

It boil down to between buying a passenger oriented car which is the CRV or driver oriented car which is the CX5

Am in the same boat as you TS but can only afford 2nd hand cos only in lower range of M40

New CRV /CX5 is for T20

Can't say much about the new upcoming CRV but the interior seems a lot better than current one. After so many years, I do not know why honda still wants to retain the cx90 rear teal light copy.

the new CRV is newer.. but being a honda (what more if it is ckd), it will not drive as nice as the cx5, wont feel premium and still have crap NVH.. oh yes, and a potential free steering rack issue.

I see, gear oil no need to change over life, sounds good to me rclxms.gif
For the current version of CRV and CX5, for the interior feeling("Atasness"), chassis ,absorber and sound proof, definitely CX5.
I m not sure how's next gen gonna be.

Surprisingly for passenger POV, I did bring parents for the test drive(CX5 first then CRV after 30mins), they would prefer mazda because of reason below
-more leg support for the back seats
-more comfortable seats
-less body roll during corner.
-Feeling solid during go thru speed bump

The current CX5 and CRV are 2017 version. Almost 7yO design. I expect the price for new gen CRV = RM180k at least and CX5 = 170K.
I dont mind to top up another 10-15k(9Years instalment XD) janji the car is good.
Initially was planned for NEW CRV but after test drive CX5, my mind keep telling me “CX5 真香” (so GOOD) rclxub.gif

Agreed, Volvo Xc rear tail light design haha nod.gif , it's not bad actually.

You got the point, honda quality , having a civic FC 2016 in da house and nearly 100k km, full of sound, chassis, absorber, wind sound and more.... whistling.gif whistling.gif

I mentioned the engine oil of Mazda does not require changing as a Con and not pro cos there are mazda owners who complain that they experience problems with their gear box especially nearer to end of warranty or after warranty had ended.

You can check out the mazda section but am surprised that you say the cx5 was more comfortable than the crv for your family

I wonder how TS knows the OTR price even before the cars are launched in Malaysia.

I would assume the price will be significantly higher.

CX5 17 inch rim is a blessing for me. Cx5 suspension is quite stiff already. The 17 rim helps alot in toning down the stiffness and increase comfort. Sat my friend's 2.5 with 19 rim. The ride is quite harsh on rough roads. Although handling is nice but the ride is not as refined as I thought, at times i quite hate it because it feels like a cheap car.

nice, im also looking for a B+/C segment SUV for my wife. Below 200k

first choice would be CX5 Facelift (if it ever launch here)
Second choice is Subaru Forester (the updated Eyesight version) Launching soon.

Honda is out of the picture as i'm driving civic FE already.

any idea why you refrained on the Tiguan... I take DASH daily to office early morning so with my bimmer i could do racing line and the only two other cars that usually have a friendly competition with me consist of a Tiguan and a Volvo. The Tiguan surprisingly could really catch up but i dont know if the driver inside is going "oh no oh no oh no" but the car seems planted

CX-5 already in the last leg of the cycle model change and wont be any newer facelift, as they are moving into 50 series.
If want to buy CX-5, now is the best time as moving into 50 series the chassis will undergo cost down especially the rear suspension.
Mazda until today still losing a lot of money in their financial report, more & more cost down method are done under the skin/not visible area and in return use of electronic control method (GVC+ or latest technology KPC) to control the car driving behavior. Easy said, newer ride will be control/monitor by electronics more.
