Hi car-sifus,

I am planning to rent a vehicle for 3 weeks in July/Aug this year.

There will be 4 adults and 3 children. We will have 4 large check-in luggages and 4 carry-on luggages.

Plan to drive from KL to Kedah at the beginning of the vacation and then from Kedah back to KL.

I have not been on any of the said cars before. So, between Starex, Alphard and Estima, which would fit us and our baggage?

Also, does anyone know any reputable companies that would rent out these vehicles? I am trying to search for car rental companies and mostly that have reviews are the ones with KLIA counters.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Starex is a 11 seater car, if you don't utilize the last row seats, you can put them down for more luggage space. Alphard and estima are 7 seater, if you use all the seats for 7 people, the trunk space for luggage is very minimal, probably can fit 2 large luggage and some small duffel bags.

Also, starex runs on diesel engine, should provide more torque for long distance drive, less tiring

starex because its a diesel.. you'll stop less to refuel.
it is also bigger than the other and definitely cheaper to rent.

Definitely Starex just purely due to its 2.5 Turbo Diesel. It's big, comfortable enough ( My mother in law and 18 other passenger enjoyed the trip), powerful and FC is good.

Definitely Starex. I got a chauffer driven one travelling from Seoul to Cheongju to Chungdu with 6 people and it was so comfortable. I am not sure about our local model but that one had wifi even.

Alphard has limited space for luggage, I think the most at the back you can fit only 2 xl luggage bags and it will compromise the 3rd row seats.

Estima smaller still with conventional doors.

Starex definitely but drive carefully. Although it's very powerful, many underestimate it power until they meet a terrible accident and regret speeding.

Drove my aunt alphard 3.0 v6 back then when in 2015. The fuel consumption is too high. Was traveling from kajang - perlis. Full tank at rawang, drove sedately 110-120kmh, fuel light up at b4 ipoh. Full tank also quite small considering the big car size.

So starex ts, take diesel

I don't mind taking taxi to go pick up the car if not too far from around Taman Maluri.

Trevo is like Socar. It is meant to be for short term rentals although they do promote long term rentals. So yes, they count by per KM.

I remember last time, years ago, I rented an Unser for a group trip to Genting, Cameron and back to KL. I only paid for the rental fees and refuel back to what was the "original" fuel meter markings, according to agreement.

If you dont mind, why not consider Nissan Urvan E25 , 14 seater (11 seater if with luggage), RM 300 a day if more than 7 days.
Here is what I found on the Internet.

Will look into this.
To be honest, was hoping i can find somewhat close to RM5080 for 20 days as this is the price Avis is offering.
