My issue with VAR remains on the consistency. Plus there is a danger of not taking in the complete context by showing things on freeze frame.

The current application of VAR is infuriating as it seems to go whichever direction the wind blows rather than a set of guidelines on the implementation.

Manchester United wins 3-1.
Story of this FA Cup run. We've been putting up that scoreline every round.

The past few weeks, United have been par for the course and it should be aligned to our expectations. Most of us knew with the thin squad we have and the fixtures of being in all competitions, performance will take a hit in Apr & May. We will start seeing more Jekyll & Hyde inconsistencies. At least Casemiro is back now to run our midfield.

My only hope is that we can hold on (yes hold on and not give it a go) to a Top 4 finish and I'll be good to call it a successful season even if we lose in the FA Cup and Europa.
We already have a trophy. Securing a CL spot for next season is the main goal.

With McTominay in midfield, we really struggle to distribute from deep which is probably why ETH plays Bruno in a deep distributor role.
Formation was spot on last night. Players shold have been more clinical but it's an off day in front of goal.

Malacia needs match fitness. He hasn't been playing for quite some time, and only playing because of Shaw's injuries.

A lot of our good players have been playing non-stop as we rarely had big goal leads.
With a very thin squad, this was expected.

But taking the positives out of the game, I'm glad to see the good old RB Leipzig's Sabitzer. And we need Martial badly. He's better than Rashford in terms of clinical and creativity.
*
Yes. This is the implication of having a thin squad.
I have no criticisms for ETH because I would have done the same, even if both weren't in danger of getting sent off.

Look at it this way. If we had not conceded the 2 freak own goals, we would have been saying the game was well managed because we got some rest for the starters.

A bit of breathing space this week with both Newcastle and Spurs dropping points. At least won't feel that much pressure against Forest.

Well, less games for us now. Sevilla is still our bogey team.
This game was more about Maguire than De Gea. By the time De Gea messed up, the game was gone. Better it happened here. But Maguire's was at the start of the game and set the tone. Nothing wrong with De Gea pasing the ball to Maguire. If we are to be playing out from the back, we need to be able to pass to the options. And we all know Maguire is only playing because our first choice CB pairing is out. Plus, Maguire asked for the ball. He isn't suited to the distribution style of play ETH wants to do, another strike in his copybook.

With our walking wounded, not surprised we got shown the exit. Beyond a select group of players, the rest of the team is still not suited to play the way we want. Just means more transfers out in the summer, but if the Glazers are still there I fear for reinforcements.

First things first though, the next game against Brighton though the FA Cup is also a stretch for me. I'm looking at the game against Spurs in 28 Apr as a key game. Get a result there at Spurs and it will be a big step to securing Top 4.

After recent matches, I don't even see how eth is superior than ole.

ETH has a trophy in his first year.
Ole could not in three years.

Ole could have the Europa cup and remain manager if not for Ddg lousy kick. When lost final, everyone blame the team clueless, shouldn't go to penalty, should win easy.

In yesterday case, same clueless performance, should win easy. Why this round manager not at fault? Lol.

In both case, I don't think manager at fault. The only constant is, we have same culprit. Ddg underperforming +Maguire playing for opponent
*
I'll provide a little elaboration on how I see things, was guilty of being too brief earlier.

Maguire is how Ole wants to play. Ole's top pick for a defender is Maguire, bought for a high price and instantly made club captain. The centerpiece.
And how Ole plays is a back 6. Defend deep. Boot it up for the front 4 and wait for individual magic to happen.

For Ten Hag, Maguire is not how he wants to play. In fact, he benches Maguire for the season and only has to field him because of injuries.

I posted earlier in the season that we will start seeing a dropoff in Apr-May because of fixture congestion. It is not primarily because of fatigue inducing a performance drop but because of injuries meaning players who don't fit the system stepping in. Ten Hag is a systems manager who wants to play a certain way. The most important component is the triangle of Varane-Martinez-Casemiro for the distribution base. When did our performance issues start? When one of that triangle wasn't available, Casemiro's suspension. Now made worse by Varane and Martinez being out. We know there are players who do not fit the model and they did not get gametime until lately, Because now there is nobody else. We can field a starting 11 with the players in the medical room.

When our team doesn't have that distribution base, we lose fluidity. So what we see on the field...is eeriely similar to what we saw under Ole BECAUSE it is Ole's team (Maguire-Lindelof).

Expectations. I think we should keep in mind the expectations at the start of the season.

Top 4? Good.
Top 4 and a trophy? Great.

We are on track for the latter. Europa is never on the cards and I'd advise fans to not hold out expectations for the FA Cup or talk of a treble. Eyes on the prize and the prize is Top 4. Because our key players are out and we are limping over the finish line. I'm already looking at that Spurs PL game as the key game for us. And in the summer, hopefully we'll be able to bring in a top forward and a midfielder at least. If the Glazers stay, it's going to be a dark dark summer.

Not sure if this will trigger a bounce back. Plus we have our own generous santa #5 playing as well ...hahaha

GD +9 vs theirs +29 sweat.gif

I think our GD can't be helped already.
Hoping Spurs continue to choke (Their football legacy) and we hit them when they're down.

Look at Spurs recent run of results. Erratic at best.

RiP their European dream haha

It's only RIP if we beat them.
Of all the games we have left this season, FA Cup Final included, the next game against Spurs is the biggest for me.

Lets go United!
Can somebody lock Maguire in his home on match day to help our chances?

A missed opportunity to overtake Newcastle! But scukur we didn't lose.

Whose fault this time?
*
I think we missed an opportunity last night.
But would advise fans to forget about Newcastle. They are better than us. Our fight is 4th place.

Avoid the nightmare scenario which is this : United beaten to 4th place by Liverpool.

We need points to avoid the Scousers pipping us to the CL.
And our next game is Villa. Mr Unai Emery. Couldn't be trickier.

Just remembered pep also interested in Maguire last time. Really dodge a bullet
*
Maybe it's Pep masterplan to bait United into buying these players.
Not just Maguire. Don't forget Pep also was in for Fred and Alexis Sanchez and United celebrated beating him to the players.

More insight regarding the takeover bids.

According to this, even with minority investment, the Glazers will not be in power anymore.

But like most in here, I prefer the Qatari's to takeover instead of ENEOS group.
*
My preference is also a full sale.
The Glazers are parasites that have contributed absolutely zero to Manchester United for over a decade and will continue to do so as long as they remained attach to the host.

In terms of importance, I would rather lose all games and miss CL if it means getting the Glazers out.
