Hi guys,

My company requires me to move to Indonesia alone for a project for about 2 years. I have been working with this Japanese company for almost 10 years in Malaysia.
With my working wife and three small kids it is difficult for me to make this decision as lots of changes in our routine is required. My wife’s carrier as a doctor is also important and the kids are also so much attached to me.

On the other hand, the salary package is quite good to almost RM 30k/month.
Currently i have some properties/ savings and investments that can generate near to 10k in passive income every month.

I am 40 years old now. Im considering few options as below:

1. Make all adjustments & Just go and work as its difficult to get this earning opportunity again
2. Retire, take some rest, focus on family, figure out and venture into some new business
3. Take a carrier break. Look for other jobs later.

What’s your opinion?

I would consider a move to indonesia. I have relative also husband relocate to Indonesia

Friday night he take flight back and leave Sunday night

Infact I beleive this is okay since weekdays you don’t spend time with kid

Also they can come over for holidays etc

Only thing is your wife will be sole warrior with the family

if you are more incline to still work (as for some works are their passion that brings balance) - give it a try first.

being detach for some times could actually brings the bond closer

Continue to work provided company allow u to fly back at least once a month with 4 or 5 days leave as compensation

If your kids are small they would need their dad

No amount of money can replace their dad coming to their graduation, sports day, parents day etc

It all depends on how you see life as.
You are at 40 with approx. 10k of residual income.
Yes the 30k will get you way ahead but do you need it?
Watching how your kids grow is priceless.
Do you value money or time more?
But once you out of that career path, chances of getting back in is very slim.

If your current work is something you like, part of your hobby and interest in life, then it's a really hard decision. If it's just work with stress, then it's an easy one.

Trust me la time pass by fast And 30k is good amount not to let go. Tell your waifu u sponsor maid since 30k can get 1 maid without much hassle for maid to help around the house

After all both party will be busy during weekday coz of work etc

Take the job. You can always fly back during the weekend for holidays or fly your wife and kids to Indo during the holidays since Indonesia is nearby. Plus, this will be a great opportunity to earn more money and further your career - you’ll be able to afford more opportunities for your kids.

Hire a caretaker or nanny to help your wife out during the weekdays. Good luck!

Go for the IDS option, not only for the pay but also for the experiences. 2 years fly by fast, you might get even better opportunities in Msia after that.

40 is still young, earn more while you still can.
Can think about semi retiring when your kids are in Univ.

3. Kid won't attach to u forever, they grew up fast and going on for their on life faster thn u think.
And, do u have any loan? If without loan, 10k passive income + few k part time per month could still grow your asset pretty well if u continue on the investment

You should take it, considering that the money drops in value most of the time and also savings might not get you far as there might be expenses that you don’t expect.

Does the job package also include your kids go to international school ?
Housing allowance?
Moving allowance?

If yes, then by all means take it !!!

Ask your wife to take a short break and follow you with the kids lah.

hmm not so good lah.

you some more have to arrange your kids punya education and indon schools not so good unless private which is more expensive.

machiem nii, cannot reject offer and remain in your current role meh?

I think 40 yo still can get jobs outside.

but try to fight to remain in current role while looking for job outside.

If I am in your position, I will stay with my family here. Maybe get a part-time job which is less stressful to have more time with yourself and your family. You don't have to be fully retired. You can be semi-retired. You might need to adjust your lifestyle if your passive income + part-time job could not cover your expenses.
