I am 34 years old this year and work as a Finance Executive in KL earning RM8000+ per month. My friend asked me to join him work as a Restaurant Management in Singapore SGD4000 per month. I'm just an average performer at work and most probably will stuck in executive until 50s. Should I just go to Singapore or continue KL? My hometown is in Kedah.

Mind let me know which company in KL? Is it a shared service?
You have to consider that do you have experiences in food industry? Your friend is a boss, or need interview first? Do you have own family in KL?

Secure a working visa In SIN first before resigning.
Check is housing allowance or accomodation? sharing room or single room?

I would suggest you to get a finance related work in SIN. EP pass for finance position is 5.5k sgd. Good luck!

I have applied for SG in the Finance department, however I only get offered for Finance Officer SGD2k+. The interviewer said because my SPM result is only passed (mostly Cs) and my degree CGPA only 2.3 from UTAR. Need to interview first, but my friend said Restaurant Management is easy to get with a degree and suitable for my academics result and average work performance.

finance and food industry have different job scopes, and the workload could be very different too. are you fine with the differences? as we all know the food industry could require you to work longer hours too. are you alright with the new changes? the exchange rate may be good, but would you be able to adapt to the changes?

i think you need to ask yourself about what your life goals are.

all the best.

4k is not a lot in Singapore compare to 8k in Malaysia. I heard offers to work at Big4 Singapore (yes, long hours) for 4.5k as a fresh graduate. If I’m not wrong, working as Dish washer at Hai Di Lao also pay 5k SGD but need to work 12 hours day for 6 days. Since it’s a partnership, do expect to work 7 days especially in the F&B industry.

I have tried to apply Big4 Singapore but rejected because of my UTAR Degree CGPA 2.3. My SPM math and account are C+.

My friend said he commute daily from JB - SG with motorcycle, and the traffic is okay because it is not office hour. About 80 minutes one way. He showed his bank account to me and he get around RM16000 net after conversion. In Malaysia, if you work as finance director your net pay also might be RM16000 due to high tax.

I am puzzled why the employers are looking at your CGPA instead of your experience? You're already 34, I would assume a good 10 years experience in the field? or they purposely nip pick this since you have no advancement from your past career?

My advise is stick to your current job. find in SG a similar field then hop. trust me, F&B is not as rosy as it seems. its very tiring. working long hours and you cannot sit. Job is pretty much repetitive. most of the people working in this field got attitude. I can't blame them as its a repetitive job. imagine for 10 years you will be working the same job everyday without any new challenges. quite boring.

Rm8000 in KL is very good already. Stick in KL. Not worth to go singapore. It may look nice at first after 3-5 years you want to come back already to KL.
Use your finance skill to get more passive income. Finance guy are smart in investment.

Are you single or married? If you single and go SG the chance you remain single till you retired is high. There is no right or wrong to go SG. Going SG you can earn more due to exchange rate, the culture is much civilise compare to Msia, convenient public transport, highly efficient in almost everywhere, no racism, stable politic, much safety.

But there are drawbacks too.
1. Unable to come back to Msia to work. You won't satisfied with Msia salary anymore even if you being offer as manager role and salary. There are many people said go SG to work 2 years but end up most if not all work till retire or retrenched in SG.

2. Less relax or leisure moment. The purpose going SG is to earn and save money. If you go too much shopping in weekend basically can't save much. To save money your weekday work and weekend home. 1 year maybe go travel overseas twice to reward yourself.

3. Find partner. Even local SG finding it hard to get partner, foreigner will get harder. Imagine if you can't find partner in workplace the chances you meet partner outside even harder since weekend mostly at home. All my friends went SG remain single until now and some of them nearly 15 years there.

4. Many said work in SG and retired in Msia. Good point but there are problem people do not foresee. If you live in a country which highly safe, very clean, efficient in everywhere, great public transport etc many years, they may find it hard to come back and live in Msia.

I got an opportunity to go SG when I was young but I decided to stay. I am happy I can stay with family, weekend chill out with friends, holidays go road trip with friends and family etc. In SG I definetely can earn more there but I am happy at Msia coz I formed own family and enjoy my life in Msia.

earning RM8000+ in KL is quite good enough...

SG offer is not so good, but kinda lower side....

Can consider if like 6k SGD above... Less than that... Really need to think about it...

If you convert $4000 directly to RM, it might sound a lot. But take note of your expenses in SG too. The room rental is crazy high. Do some calculation and minus all the expenses like food, transport, telco, groceries. The remaining will be your savings. Will it be more than what you save in Malaysia? Another thing to note is the career path and salary increment. At least you have a steady increment and career growth in corporate. Not too sure about restaurant manager.
