Hi Guys,

I need an advise from you who have experience in this field.
I use a flash gun for my night gathering photography.
With this, I normally use AUTO WB. the color of the picture turns out right.

But once I set to a Custom WB (custom/tungsten/indoor/etc) the color turns out..wrong.
If I use a Tungsten WB, the color of the picture comes out with an ugly green hue.

Do I have to use any color filters for my flash if i want to use a Custom WB?

Any of you all have similar experience before? smile.gif

Normally it's fine with me with custom white balance + flash at night. I have never needed to use coloured filters for my flash.

My CWB is set at home with a white card and and in a room I feel the lights are particularly white and nearly never touched after that. Actually, my CWB tends to be a bit warm since I fix it on cold white lights (fluorescent lights). If I want my shots to be cold, then I will CWB it with the white card under warm light like sunlight.

Another alternative is to shoot in RAW and you can have the full flexibility to change its white balance during post-processing. You can still adjust it to some degree in JPEG. But either case, it's better to NOT shoot in auto-white balance because you don't get a constant starting point for white balance (AWB may apply some unknown white balance) correction you can just apply to all photos.

Also, if your computer monitor is not colour-calibration, I suggest you trust the colour accuracy of your DSLR's LCD more. Their LCDs are colour calibrated.

On my nikon D80, the auto WB seems quite accurate. When I use custom WB (PRE) where the the cam takes a shot and measures the WB, the color goes bad.

I use auto most of the time.
