Asked ChatGPT. The truth:

Question: Why did Singapore leave Malaysia?

ChatGPT:

Singapore was a part of Malaysia for a brief period of time from 1963 to 1965. However, the merger between Singapore and Malaysia was short-lived and Singapore became an independent country on August 9, 1965. There were several reasons why this separation occurred:

Political Differences: The People's Action Party (PAP) in Singapore, led by Lee Kuan Yew, had a different political ideology and vision for the country compared to the ruling political parties in Malaysia. This led to tensions between the two sides, particularly over issues such as the role of the central government versus state governments.

Economic Differences: Singapore was more developed and had a stronger economy than the rest of Malaysia at the time. This led to some resentment among the other states in Malaysia, who felt that Singapore was getting an unfair advantage. There were also disagreements over economic policies, including trade and industrialization.

Racial and Cultural Differences: There were also cultural and racial tensions between the Malay-dominated government in Malaysia and the Chinese-majority population in Singapore. The government in Malaysia was concerned about the growing influence of Chinese culture and language in Singapore, and saw it as a threat to the country's stability.

In the end, these tensions proved too difficult to overcome and led to the separation of Singapore from Malaysia. While it was a painful process for both sides, Singapore went on to become a prosperous and successful country in its own right, while Malaysia continued to develop as an independent nation.

If singapore didn't leave, thier wealth and prosperity would be channeled to poorer states....just like Selangor or Penang, behind the economic drivers, if not songlapped

They would be no where as developed or wealthy if they stayed in the federation.
