Yeah..after long hard thinking.. already changed to new set today. At tyre shop the thread seems like 2-3 mm ..and actually the crack wasnt that bad. Maybe the rubber hardned. After taking the whole tyre out theres no crack elsewhere except at the edge of tyre on the outside part ..had to go with uc7 215/55/16 rear to pair with 205/55/16 front... no other brand carry 225/50/16 easily except michelin ps4..now can drive without thinking of a tyre blowout situation at the back of my mind.

Thank you for providing the feedback that this 5.5 yo ps3 with external cracks at tread edge at tread depth < 3 mm as good to use.

These cracks are pretty normal for a 7 year old tyre. I would be more worried if there are visible cracks on the sidewalls instead, both outer and inner.

If none, should be able to use back the tyres for perhaps another year with extra precaution.

Generally used 'old' hardened tyres with cracks on tread area including edge of tyre tread area are harmless and good to use.

This may or may not include hairline cracks on tyre side wall.

The test of the pudding is on visual inspection for cracks or breaks at whole of inner surface area of a socalled and supposedly dangerous to drive aged and hardened tyres, whatever the brands.
