Basically i would argue a fast way to progress in your career is to try and jump between companies once you feel your career progression has stagnated within one company. And yes for high pay try and join the design/validation side of big MNC like Intel, AMD, Effenix, Starfive, Lattice. Recently i heard Microsoft also opening in Penang and hiring for some related R&D Role.
Lots of opportunities coz not many people know Penang is actually one of the few places with Design/Validation Talent

QUOTE(NeRzhUl @ Feb 27 2023, 04:22 PM) Based on what i saw recently regarding pay ranges. And this is slightly out of date and i changed the numbers a bit. Do note that this is in regards to Semicon R&D work or any other of the more "advanced" sectors. Factory work lain kira. Fresh Grad avg: RM3851 Grade 5 avg: RM5333 Grade 6 avg: RM7407 Grade 7 avg: RM11111 Grade 8 avg: RM15555 Grade 9 avg: RM21481 Grade 10 avg: RM28148 These are just base pay. Not including Variable Bonus such as CIP/APB/QPB, what ever they might call it. Externally other companies might use different Job grade schemes but it roughly tracks. Grade 5 is where you'll typically be after 3-5 years exp. Grade 7 maybe about 7-10 years. Grade 8 is what people might call senior staff engineer etc. In Penang area senior folk are typically Grade 7-9. So you can kinda understand why Penang property market always got buyer one. esp if both husband and wife work in Semicon R&D. Yes it will be a struggle at times to get promoted to around grade 7-8 level but once u do I think your skill set can carry you to further promotion fantasy1989 betul ka?

QUOTE(ipohps3 @ Mar 5 2023, 02:01 PM) slight different depending on job code and also compa ratio but it's about there if your current compensation is at median range for that grade usually 6 to 7 is one of the wall 7 to 8 still fine 8 to 9 is another wall 9 to 10 is the biggest wall (because your promotion need other leader support) This post has been edited by fantasy1989: Mar 5 2023, 03:14 PM

Anyone working in Infineon/Texas Instruments/ST Microelectronics? For fresh graduates, the pay they offered is as competitive as Intel/AMD/Effenix? Anyone working there can share salary?

Anyone working there can share salary? Can't help you there on that. My feel is the salary maybe won't be as high. But for fresh grad i think (i hope) won't lari so far. But why aim for those companies when you know the big ones in penang/kulim can offer higher pay?

QUOTE(soules83 @ Mar 5 2023, 01:38 PM) no definite answer to this. but one thing for sure is....weekend and long hour work is a must(no life) Lol...you really like to diss intel. There's no need to work like that but there's a need to ensure that you're a technical expert on the areas you're working in. I've known many who are doing good in their job but there's no need to work the way you mentioned. Of course there are peak periods of maybe a month or two but haven't seen anyone having no life.
