What is the salary range for any engineer position in semiconductor industry? Usually how much increment per year? I am EE graduates, don’t know what is the expected salary I can put Let’s say after working for 1/2/3 years, what salary range can I get? Did Penang Semiconductor company offered higher salary package compared to other states? Anyone working on semiconductor industry can share salary with working experience (year)?

Intel now offering RM4000. Effenix offering about RM5000. Increment hard to say right now in this current env when companies like Intel cut increment. But i would say 3-5% average for non promotion increment. If promo maybe 15-20%.
After 1-3 years i think u can probably get about 5-6k based on current salaries. Maybe even more. But see outcome of current recession. After 10 years if you get a few promotions and generally don't screw up, you can hope to get rm8k-12k+?
Salaries can get as high as rm20k+ a month for very exp senior talent.

Standard is 3k even in the "normal" semicond companies, maybe 3.2k if you're first class. Intel fresh is 4k like the other poster said.

Which part of engineering within semicon?
If you jadi mat kilang work in manufacturing (assembly / test) fresh grad salary around 3-4k for big mnc like AMD/Intel. 2-3k for smaller local SMEs. Increments for MNCs are pretty standard around 3-5% per year and around 15-20% if got promotion.
If you work in semicon IC design (Front-end RTL / Back-end physical etc) Intel give 4k for fresh grad. Other companies like Efinix / Lattice / Starfive / AMD / Skyechip etc can give upwards of 5k even for fresh grad. Increment is the same around 3-5% per year is the standard (pending performance review) and around 15-20% (promotion) and some even 30% (jumping ship).

This might not be Semicon per say, but still under manufacturing industry.
Sony EMCS Bangi in 2019 giving fresh grad 2.8k/2.9k starting.

Paying 7-9k for a principal engineer and 6k for staff engineer? If this is semicon design house, no wonder close shop.

Based on what i saw recently regarding pay ranges. And this is slightly out of date and i changed the numbers a bit. Do note that this is in regards to Semicon R&D work or any other of the more "advanced" sectors. Factory work lain kira. Fresh Grad avg: RM3851 Grade 5 avg: RM5333 Grade 6 avg: RM7407 Grade 7 avg: RM11111 Grade 8 avg: RM15555 Grade 9 avg: RM21481 Grade 10 avg: RM28148 These are just base pay. Not including Variable Bonus such as CIP/APB/QPB, what ever they might call it. Externally other companies might use different Job grade schemes but it roughly tracks. Grade 5 is where you'll typically be after 3-5 years exp. Grade 7 maybe about 7-10 years. Grade 8 is what people might call senior staff engineer etc. In Penang area senior folk are typically Grade 7-9. So you can kinda understand why Penang property market always got buyer one. esp if both husband and wife work in Semicon R&D. Yes it will be a struggle at times to get promoted to around grade 7-8 level but once u do I think your skill set can carry you to further promotion

Looking at the data posted by @NeRzhUl, looks like ranges are still pretty much inline after accounting for the years of inflation from when i posted it back then. Anyway they closed because tutup kedai and moved everything manufacturing to Thailand. Some folks are still there in a smaller office to support engineering works in Thailand. Was talking to a buddy of mine the other day, Grade 109, ie. Snr Manager equivalent, now drawing around 12k.

Factory work having higher pay range or lower? Usually how much is the difference pay range between R&D and factory?

Usually how much is the difference pay range between R&D and factory? I meant to say if you're an operator or technician kind of job, the pay scale mentioned above doesn't apply. If you're doing engineering work at the factory the pay scale there should apply if you're at Intel and maybe AMD. As for the pay range difference i don't have a clue. But i think it probably is lower

Typically those that engineers that jaga production do get paid lower compared to those running engineering R&D, payscale might be the same but R&D typically benefits from different budget allocation, etc.

QUOTE(NeoNoir @ Mar 3 2023, 05:46 PM) Yes, for R&D the aforementioned estimated salary makes sense. However, this is applicable to prominent large scale MNCs. Salary for Contract Manufacturers or smaller suppliers (non-OEM) is relatively lower. Engineers involved in day-to-day Production / Factory Ops earn less as well. Many of my friends who are in Semiconductor R&D have relocated to SG Your friends move for normal manufacturing roles or R&D?
