PETALING JAYA: Umno has yet to inform Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein on the reason for his six-year suspension from the party, even in its official letter to him on the matter.

In a Facebook post, Hishammuddin said he just received the official letter today, informing him that he had been suspended. He added that the letter, which was dated Jan 30, did not state the reason for his suspension.

“On Jan 27, the Umno Supreme Council decided that you would be suspended from the party for breaching Clause 20.9 of Umno’s constitution.

“This suspension is for six years, starting from Jan 27, 2023, or two election cycles for the Umno Supreme Council,” read the letter issued by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.

Clause 20.9 of the party’s constitution states that all Umno members must abide by its constitution and members’ code of ethics, comply with party orders, preserve Umno’s good name, and respect party decisions, among others.

Last Friday, Hishammuddin, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, former Jempol MP Salim Sharif and Tebrau division leader Maulizan Bujang were suspended for six years.
