Hi guys, really new here.

Need some help. I wrote them an email on Saturday, got no reply till now. I don't like calling their customer care line as they are alway non-technical people.

I've registered the Power Package and have it installed on 14 November. It was working fine but only that I couldn't do the first-time-login for my account at http://www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb/, but that's OK cause I guess my account was not online yet.

Friday I bought a wireless router (D-Link DIR-300 Wireless G Router, updated firmware to ver 1.02) so that I can connect to my laptops and game console. I did the installation of the router using it's setup wizard CD. It was successful and I can surf the internet as usual.

Then I tried to the first-time-login again at http://www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb, I managed to get in and create username and password, etc, bu when I click "confirm" there is an error message about"Invalid HSDPA".

So I tried to check my modem/connection info via 192.168.0.1, I get the "page cannot be displayed" message. Now I can't see the system ifo of my modem, connection type, etc.

Anyone know what is going on with my account and/or modem? Is there any way I can fix it?

I get speed of up to 700 kb/s the first hour of installation, but after that it is 200-300 kb/s average. I'm in Bandar Menjalara, Kepong.

Thanks!

The reason why you get the "Invalid HSDPA" is because your account is not yet active on their site. So you don't need to worry about that. You can only register your account at http://www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb after 2-3 weeks time. This is normal so you don't need to worry much on it.

The problem you can't display anything at the 192.168.0.1 maybe because the modem system is busy. Try to on and off the modem again. BTW, did you configure your network setting to all auto assign IP and DNS? If you didn't configure it to auto assign IP and DNS, you can't connect to internet at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong. =)

Thank you for your reply.

OK, understand about the account registration. Because you know after I entered the SIM number and IC, all my details appear, and I can create my username etc, but after I click confirm that "Invalid HSDPA" message appears.

About the modem IP, yeah, maybe it is busy, because while I was doing that I was also downloading updates through my PS3, but I think I tried it again last night but still failed. However, will try it again after work today.

I did configure the network to auto-assign IP address, and I can surf on both my laptops, and even on my PS3. Only now I don't know if I'm connected with HSDPA or UMTS or EDGE, and can't check the signal strength.

Thank you so much for your help llhm87, appreciates it.

A Maxis girl called me just now. She said it's caused by the router, not the modem, so if I want someone to come and check, I have to pay for it. I rather not. Guess I'll just let it be that way.

And the thing about the personal account, they will look into it. Thanks again for your help.

U can always bring the modem to their center to try it out there, and if they can't fix it, they are suppose to change a new one for you. I actually witness this from a customer when i was in KLCC changing my ZTE to USB. No kidding.
*
Good idea.

But guess what, when I got home from work today, it's actually working.

What more, now I get a constant HSDPA connection now, before this the modem always switch from HSPDA to UMTS and even GPRS.

And I'm getting speeds between 500 to 750 kbps at speedtest.net now, before really hard to even get 300.

When that Maxis girl called me this afternoon I took the chance to complain about my speeds, and make her check that I really was registered on the Power package because the service was like the Starter one, just to make her feel guilty. Guess complaining is one way to go.

Thanks everyone for your helps. This thread is my home now for this broadband discussion.

Can I know what is the software you using?
*
Yeah, the one in the background that says "Mobile Connect" with the Maxis logo, where did you get that?

EDIT: You mean the foreground, looks like DAP to me. Not sure, haven't used that quite long, now I use Flashget as my download manager.

The one at the background is the Firmware for Maxis USB. The overlapping is IDM v5.11 which somehow works great for me. I've tried FlashGet and a few others but somehow ftp d/l seems unstable, maybe wrong version.
*
Oh, I'm using the ZTE modem.

IDM, I'll check it out. I'm using Flashget 1.75, the newer versions always seems to kacau my system, maybe spyware.

JWCheah, How come Maxis allow u switch ur ZTE to USB?? I called to customer service line, the operator told me that it is not allowed. Any other way to do it?? Teach me ya. 10s.

I think he was upgrading from the modem-based Power Package to the USB one. So now he will pay RM138 per month instead of RM98.

The offical site, http://www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb/ has updated with a link to a software patch for the ZTE-MF600 modem.

"To further improve the internet browsing experience".

Or is ita trick, the software actually to control more of our bandwidth?

How do you guys could get the RSSI so low?

My modem is mounted outside my window, I only get 75 - 85.

And how to look for the location of the base station/cell tower? I'm at Bandar Menjalara, Kepong, anyone from there? Do you know?

I'm there too, the base station should be the one next to the sunway SPK Villa Manja construction site. Opposite the Telekom building.

LOL.... "ZTE mounted outside the window" !!!  hmm.gif  Wow...  shakehead.gif
*
OK, thanks, I'll have to chage the location of the modem then.

Not on the window, but on the wall just outside my window.

Interesting discovery JWCheah. Thanks.

I think I've seen a signal booster at LY, but not sure is it to boost your own router's signal or for the modem.

Same goes here. I dont know its not that stable. It shows I am connected but then there is no Internet throughput
*
I got that problem last weekend.

I called customer care, talk to a guy named Fazli. Guided me to a few step and I never get "connected but no internet" problem again.

Here are the steps:

1. Go to the ZTE homepage.
2. Click on "Network Connection", select manual connecting, select "disconnect" and submit (you'll be disconnected).
3. Go to "Network Selection" and select "WCDMA Only", submit.
4. Go back to "Network Connection", select back "auto-connecting" and submit.
5. Repeat the steps above, but this time select "WCDMA Preferred".
6. You should be able to get internet again.

or it's totally nothing to do with the dbm thing?

Is your area covered with HSDPA or not? Check the maps at the Maxis site:

The clause is there in the TOC.

But, I have downloaded more than 20 GBs already in my 2 weeks of using it. Last 2 days alone, I have downloaded 5 GBs. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

I think I have seen others that have downloaded more than 30 GB per month.

So don't worry about that, for now. wink.gif

I find that this site, http://www.cinemaonline.com.my/default.asp is always refreshing itself every 5 seconds. I think it's for their small ad on top-right corner of the page.

Please check the posts above.

Your laptop must stay actively pinging the internet to maintain the HSDPA connection. In simple word, must actively surfing the internet.

If not, it will drop to UMTS. HSPDA connection is limited per cell base, so this is how Maxis control it. Auto-refreshing a webpage is one way to get around it.

I'm happy already with my Maxis BB.

No more torrents for me. Rapidshare is the new way of file-sharing for me.

I have been having problems more than a week already. Before that it was kind of smooth.

What actually happened? Too many subscribers now? Then they should upgrade their facilities to cope up.

Has Maxis made any statement on this?

The connection now is much much more stable. I never get disconnected since 7 days ago, and always get at least UMTS. biggrin.gif

Just the speed may go up and down occasionally. sweat.gif

I have downloaded 25 GB since last Thursday. thumbup.gif

And last 2 days, the speed is kind of good. I downloaded 8.4 GB in less than 2 days. That's good enough for me. wink.gif

I think Maxis is really upgrading the service. They should be, after getting a lot of customer since the last PC Fair, they got a lot of money already.

And because of that too upgrading is inevitable. More customers, more traffic.
