Dont you get charged for 3G Roaming ?
Anyway , I dont know why I can get good speed these days. The signal is also somewhat bad (hovering around -70 to -76 dbm) |

Getting around 700-800Kbps. I think that should be enough for now. Hopefully I dont connect to another tower because the speed there sucks. Guess too much of people are connected to that tower
Merry Christmas and a happy new year ! |

Well if you notice there is somekind of notice that says 'Dont use in an event of thunderstorm'. Technically you should be *safe* if you have a surge protector (the cheapo ZTE does not come with it)

First of all , how did you get rid your maxisbb. I am thinking of changing it to I2G. My phone shows that i could get 1.3Mbps (after doing a speed test). This seems to be promising

I am feeling like dumping it.
My RSSI will hover around ~70-69dBm..After tweaking I could get around 300+- Kbps constant which is good enough ! |

Yes , how did you downgrade your package cause I am thinking of downgrading to RM 68 cause thats enough for their faces !. Seriously , now it sucks big time....But on the other hand the I2G package looks good , consistent speed even though they are connected to the same tower

Hey there,
Your signal seems to be okay. You might face inconsistency in ydownloading and things like that. To change to WCDMA only. You'll have to do this, Go to your modem configuration and click Network Connect. Select Disconnect Internet and press Apply. Then next up go to Network Select and choose WCDMA and press apply. The next thing you should configure is APN Settings. I've managed to find out that the default Maxis DNS Server sucks most of the time. Yes , thats why you are unable to your .NET thingy. In order to fix this you gotta change few settings Firstly change the APN Dial Number from *99# to *99***1# , this should fix the disconnection issue at least !. Next change from Auto DNS to Manual DNS and use this Primary DNS : 202.75.129.101 Standby DNS : 202.75.129.102 Give it a shot and let me know ~! Please do me a favour if you change this settings , go to Report and Check on Do not Report. I dont want Maxis folks to know what am I up to actually ! I guess its better on some hops. Anyway I'll see if I can do anything else or not. It seems that you are getting 700kbps on burst which is good !
WCDMA only will fall back to UMTS/HDSPA. It still keeps your connection alive and it shouldn't be a problem ! This post has been edited by prasys: Jan 6 2008, 04:44 PM |

Yes just to 3G/HSDPA only. Dont use GSM. It seems that when the signal is weak , the thing automatically falls back to GSM and sticks to it !

QUOTE(butthead @ Jan 9 2008, 01:02 PM) My plan of using the Connection Keeper failed also. It seems that in some cases of disconnection (i don't know which type of disconnection, my downloads totally stopped as i can't monitor as i was out for work yesterday). Even the Connection Keeper logs errors where it could not simulate browsing to a page. So my new resolution to this problem is to use a batch file which calls up intenet explorer and browse to a certain site (i.e. www.google.com) and then taskkill the iexplore.exe afterwards. Definitely not the perfect plan, but it should trick the damn modem into believing that i am actually there browsing the internet. I stuffed the batch file to run in the Scheduled Tasks for every 10 mins. Hope this stupid workaround works. Dont surf Google. Instead surf this site http://58.71.141.14/maxis-storefront/connect.do Its the connection script. So it sends keepalive connection to the cell tower and it always works. Trust me ! |

QUOTE(butthead @ Jan 11 2008, 12:18 PM) thanks... i included that in my script too... seems like my dumb workaround sort of work 75% percent of the time except for this morning when it just could not connect back for no reasons... even in the modem firmware page states disconnected and the service is EDGE... it was back up after several tries of switching it on and off... Thats the Maxis connection script. It establish a connection and automatically redirects you to their maxis bb site. It works every time when you dc/reconnect and it will force back to HSDPA.but doesn't the modem redirects the first visit to any sites to the www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb after every disconnection? but the site is of another different IP add compared to yours... anyways... it did the work for me and i think i am quite satisfied with it for now... i think the results are not 100% accurate all the time...i got a 240+kbps upload this morning when i tested after my connection problem.. then the 2nd try went back to the usual 50+kbps... |

1) If you buy a switch then yes you can connect it to more then 1 PC. The ZTE Modem itself is a cheap router. So you dont have to buy a router. All you need is a switch
2) The modem is rental , dont think you own the modem. All maxis bb modems are in rental-based. Meaning that you dont get to own them |

Well I called Maxis today. Yes I am with the same boat as our guy here. But they were soo friendly (well they made money by making me to wait for ~30mins). Anyway yes there is a 20GB cap a month (ewwww) , they will automatically throttle you back to 256Kbps (whoopie , 384kbps has no impact on this , 384kbps to 256kbps isn't a big deal).
Well , you have to live it up for a year. Now I dont mind if they start to throttle the connection , aslong they can provide me with very good speeds. thats all |
