I got a friend who is a Singaporean and holding a Singapore driving license. He wants to come into Malaysia and borrow my spare car to drive around Malaysia. I've been doing some research online and it says so long one hold a Singapore driving license, that person can drive any Malaysia car (rental or borrow from friend) no problem. If kena road block and required to show license, it is not an offence to show the Singapore driving license to the police office who that person is driving a Malaysia car.

Is the rules I stated correct ? Im just afraid that police might not recognized a foreigner with Singapore driving license driving a Malaysia registered car. I know there is another option is to get the international driving permit but online said that is not necessary in Malaysia If it's Singapore driving license.

Do advice if you know more about this rule. Thanks.

Normally traffic police no ask question because they always deal with Singapore/foreign license.
The one who have many questions is the kampung policemen which they seldom or never see foreign license.
They will ask license expiry date which Singapore license don't have unless you're a pass holder.
JPJ also questioned my license last time. Ask the letter la what la. But probably because I rode a kapchai that time.

if afraid then dont borrow lo, why so susah. I'm malaysian used to work in SG and also carry SG license cos SG license are like international license and I travel quite a bit to Australia also rent car over there easier just show my SG license cos malaysia license cannot use oversea need international driving permit to apply at JPJ and need to pay so troublesome. International permit is for Malaysian to drive oversea with our Malaysia license la not the other way round for ppl from oversea drive here

Best thing about SG license no need renew cos I'm PR and its lifetime as long as I'm still a Singapore PR, but I still keep my malaysia license and renew it regularly la. I usually go out with my SG license only malaysia license keep at home, been block by traffic police before while driving back home in Malaysia with my Malaysia car no problemo.

No issues also using my Malaysian driver’s license to rent a car in Aus. Don’t need IDP also. Done this many times in both Vic and NSW since many years back till today.

IDP isn't required in Australia when Malaysian driving license is written in English too.

I rented at car in Australia and drove around using Malaysian driving license. The car rental company said it's fine.
