We're using a 2-1 LG Washer Dryer Machine, model FG1612H2W

Last weekend the machine suddenly broke, starting with the touchscreen door not able to open, with weird UE etc errors appearing on it.
Then wife and me try to press here and there (without forcing it to open), reboot the machine etc.. end up later become worse with screen going blank but with sound. ranting.gif

After sent for repair, technicians tried to replace with new LCD door, end up it exploded, found out later the wiring also spoil:

He told us to replace this part is expensive, hence helped us to repair. Total cost to repair is RM800+ (the unit we bought was RM3-4k, forgot exact price).
Also advice us not to buy 2 in 1 washing machine dryer as they spoil easily. Not durable. Better to get separate unit. Earlier we get 2 in 1 is due to living at condo and want to save space.. didn't know this nightmare happen to us. vmad.gif

Other articles to inform you on not to buy such 2 in 1 washer dryers:

QUOTE
"Historically they were the least reliable laundry appliance, although reliability has improved in line with standalone washing machines in recent years.
More complicated machinery parts - as with most things that combine functions, so more likelihood something will go wrong."

QUOTE
Steve Sheinkopf, owner and CEO of Yale Appliance + Lighting in Boston and one of the industry’s most prolific bloggers put it bluntly: “I hate these things,” he told us. “It’s really a product that should not be on the market. We do everything in our power not to sell them.”

The problem, Sheinkopf said, is that the repair rate is sky high—over 70 percent within the first year, according to his service department’s records. “They seem to be the most repair-prone products we sell.”

So it's not only LG brand, but all other brands have his problem. Buy at your own risk. The more you use washing + drying every time, be prepared for a shorter lifespan of your machine! moneyflies.gif

Always buy a separate Washer + separate dryer.. such will last very long. End of my warning to those planning to get 2 in 1 washer dryer.

A separate washer and dryer will take up double the space.

And it looks ugly stacking these 2 together.

up to you want to listen or not. I have a family of 3 young kids. This unit wasn't even 3 years old. Spoil at around 2+ years. RM800+ bill. We never exceed the weight limit when using, and always follow direction of using front loader type detergent.

The LG noob technician statement "Also advice us not to buy 2 in 1 washing machine dryer as they spoil easily. Not durable." is not right.

Like that you should tell the technician to tell LG CEO to not create product that is not reliable or durable.

Many reason could be the cause of the washing machine faulty.

Example 1. Human error 2. Power Trip 3. Overloading wash 4. Not following instruction 5. And ETC

i intend to buy 2 in 1 washer dryer still. but I will not be using the drying function frequently

the dryer will only serve as backup when its not possible to hang dry my clothes eg: raining

hang drying is still the best when it comes to protecting the quality of your fabrics.... unless you can afford those expensive heat pump dryers

I have electrolux washer dryer for more than 4 years. Never have issue.

It have smart function (sorry i forgot what it is called) that if clothes dry already then it will auto stop. Example if set dryer 1 hour, it detect all dry by 48 minutes, then it will stops.

Bought more than rm4k back in 2018.

Use almost daily. Or at least once per 2-3 days.

always buy separate dryer and washer. one breaks down, doesn't affect the other...yes it may be a bit more expensive but more practical.

I'm using a top load washer and front load dryer.

had LG washer dryer since 2017, only rust issues, door seal problem and water in issues. but i rarely use the drying function since only useful during raining and lightwear. but would strongly recommend heat pump standalone dryers

On a somewhat unrelated note, there are more news of malfunction washing machine and fridge from korean brand, especially Samsung. Currently, Samsung and LG are facing a huge lawsuit in US for their fridge, meanwhile in Taiwan, some model of Samsung's front loading washing machine had been recall coz the glass cracked/exploded. Guessed their quality cant keep up with their tech advancement. I would rather buy china brand one since its much more cheaper and quality probly just as good as Samsung or LG.

I usually wash and if load need 1 to 2 batch, i will wash both and bring to laundrymat to use thier dryer. 30 mins for 24kg drier cost rm 7

Per week i do this 1 x for family of 3 and cost me 7 ringgit and 30 mins of my time ( which i optimize further by washing my car next door So kill 2 bird with one stone)

Per month cost me 28 ringgit and per year cost me 336 ringgit. Decided not to get drier as i will only break even price of drier on 5th year. In 5 year sure breakdown and cost more to repair and keep it going

Sales people always push what customers want. We called up the sales person as we still had his contact and told him about it. The guy listened and ask many questions.. Guess he didn't know about this also. This LG Indian sales guy good.. He try to push what's best for the customers. When we talk to him we can see it.

Need research deep in the net and you'll find articles on this. Ever since this two in one came out there are durability issues. For any brand.. Not just LG.

Some sales people only want their commission and they don't care after that. 2 years ma.. By that time usually lost touch with their customers d.

What the technician say is true what.. Dont ever listen to sales ppl and do your own research. Why tell CEO when there's demand? Maybe some rich ppl don't mind paying the maintenance costs? They only small workers in the company u think CEO will listen? Profit matters to the company shareholders.. if u dumb u buy your business.

Heavy use or light use? Are you alone using it or with family? How many family members use?

Electrolux heard the repair costs is high. Much higher than LG. Wife use before.

Yea 2 in 1s really aren’t great unless you’re really really space limited.

Our climate doesn’t really necessitate dryers. Does anyone know where to get the Steigen ceiling mounted drying racks which seem very common in Singapore but not so much here.

They have air drying and anti bacterial functions which seem very attractive for those with yards.

If you are staying condo, best to check with management before getting those

A lot condo nowadays the management dont allow to hang clothes that would be visible from exterior facade eg: above balcony guard rail. So the only option would be those short hanging racks. Same goes to yard if your yard is outward facing

Back to your question, if you shop in Taobao before, there's a lot of option for those ceiling mounted drying racks. Cheaper than buying from local seller

family use. 2 adult 3 child.

i separate cloth types when using it.

1st round just jersey and light cloth so 60 mins wash + dry confirmed all dry.

next round my kids school's uniform + white clothes.

then mixed cottons or jeans/towel/bedsheet/blanket which need extra about 45 mins dryer after 60 mins wash + dry.
this 1 usually run dryer 60 mins but as mentioned before, if it detect dry already before 60 mins then it will auto stop.

not sure about "high" repair cost. officemate have 1 and after 3 years got "check water tap" error msg when run dryer only (no problem if wash + dry), repair cost rm502.

i'm staying in condo with balcony and have wall mounted retractable hanger, but, still prefer dryer notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
