The fee for MH3 is considered cheap compared to their previous games. I paid about 900yen 5 years ago for MH1 but that was hosted by KDDI and it allows a customer to play all games hosted by them for 1 fee. (e.g CvS2, KoF)

Monster Hunter Frontier for PC was very much more expensive as I paid 1500yen a month and an additional RM15 a month for VPN. There are additional charges if one wants to access high level quests much much later, about 300yen iirc. If you want to enlarge your trophy room have to pay an additional 100 yen I think. I quit after a few months because it was ridiculous.

Going to get this game soon and need to clarify something:

1. Can play on LAN?
2. Is online free?
3. Can offline (LAN/multiplayer) access every quests?

1. No LAN mode. 2 Player is splitscreen and LIMITED TO ARENA TRIAL QUESTS ONLY. That means you are given set equipments instead of bringing your own and your friend can transfer his/her character data from his/her wii by storing the character data into their wiimote (character data only, no equips or items) to bring to their friends' house.

2. Online is never free for the japanese versions. MH1 US for PS2 was free but the server went down only after 3 years in service.

3. No. Offline can never access all quests. There will always be monsters exclusive to online and offline.

There's only PS2's port, MHG and Wii exclusive, MH3 for Wii, that really isn't a lot.

And now we start placing bets on how long the online servers will last before it gets shut down.
