I think its rather obvious who would win it, most likely Kaka.

I must say the list is quite a farce. I'm just wondering what has Marquez, Deco and Torres did to warrant a place in the list.

Sometimes it just commercial gimmick.. we all know who gonna be in the final draft picking someone also worthy for the title would spread out the votes and would make very hard to get a out to out winner.

Who win the big prize on that year will most likely to win the Fifa player of the year. In the past the likes like Ronaldo won the WC, Cannavaro won the WC. So this year shortlist candidate should be between C. Ronaldo with Kaka. But I think Kaka will win it because he won the UCL. Moreove he perform in the big stage in Europe compare to C. Ronaldo only manage to perform his big game performance in domestic competition.

The list is quite a joke actually. Buffon? Sorry to say, he might be the one of the best goalkeepers around but he was playing in Serie B.

Cannavaro is overrated. One World Cup and he is listed so many times? Real Madrid defense is not exactly rock solid.

Lionel Messi only really started to shine recently. He showed glimpses throughout the year but so has a lot of players.

Only Cristiano and Kaka seems worth it. I would say Kaka as he was a better all round performer. Even though I am a Man United fan.

Although im a ManUtd fan, Ronaldo had a totally amazing season but my gut feeling tells me that Kaka will nick it thanks to the Champions League triumph.

I rather see him in the list than Cannavaro..

God knows how Thuram can be in the list. He hasn't played much and he hasn't played well. Same goes for Cannavaro last season. Juninho has not done much last season. They weren't anywhere last season. Heck some would argue he and the team underperformed. Torres sure as hell hasn't played better than Villa or Totti (Golden Boot) and if Marquez were to be there, I could think of Vidic who has been godlike last season.

And a Serie B player in the FIFA World Player of the Year? He can have a 100 clean sheets in the Serie B and that would still be worth zit. Isn't that why they have coefficients in the first place? Henry and Cech both spent equal time on the sideline and on the field.

Kaka wins for me. If there were Totti, he'd be second and Ronaldo third.

Shit list.

If Fabregas were to be there, Giggs and Scholes would have been definite inclusions because no offense, but they have been above him last season. This season would be a different story.

as much i like arsenal and their player, cesc still have many thing to do before he can be shortlist for player of the years, he still need to learn many thing, he maybe good for arsenal right now, but they also consider player's contribution for club and country...maybe we can see cesc after 2-4 years, who knows...

As I've posted before in the Arsenal thread:
QUOTE
why on earth was Titi nominated when he spent 2/3 of the season injured? Torres got nominated as well... was he performing any better than Robin who was injured for half a season? Torres started 36 Primera Liga games yet only scored 14 league goals. Robin started 17 and scored 11.

With all due respect to Torres, my above statement was just an example of how shitty the nomination list is. It is more focused on fame and popularity of the players, together with the "BIG" teams they play for; instead of the actual performances throughout the year.

Again I must say, Titi should have won it THREE TIMES, especially the season when we went unbeaten in the league. No other striker matched his consistency that season.

FIFA World Player my foot.

van persie injured a long period of time last season but his stats was impressive... 11 goals in 17 mathces if i'm not mistaken.... if given more matches played and away from injuries... he might get a chance on the list... but i doubt that as the list is hugely base on the fame of the players .... only big names and overated players in this list.... some in exception of course....eg kaka and C.Ronaldo.... icon_rolleyes.gif

lol if thats the criteria to pick the winner then few can rival n match Totti for the influence he can hav to his team.

n whats up wif all the 'fantasizing' on Kaka lol ? he was great for CL but was actually kinda medicore domestically. i would say Totti, RVN, n C. Ronaldo had a better season in overall than him. but Kaka won the big prize aka CL so i guess thats what matter most.

messi wasnt that big influence to barca last season considering he spent a long period of time in the sideline nursing injuries.... and the fact that barca didn't win anything last season plus a dissapointing early exit in the ucl... messi is virtually out of the frame...

as for C.Ronaldo, he stamped his authority in manchester united... making the right wing a position of his own in the team... his influence for the team is beyond question.. and inspired the team to their 1st epl title in 3 years.... lose the ucl to ac milan in the semi final stage, where he was outshined by the kaka, who i think should be the well deserved winner of the fifa world player of the year award this year.

so, in this case, imho kaka should be the winner, C.Ronaldo runner-up, Ruud Van Nistelrooy third... icon_rolleyes.gif

I think most likely that Kaka would win it since he won the 'Big One'. C.Ronaldo would definitely be a close runner up since he had a great season leading Utd to the title. While Messi was injured most of last season and was brilliant in bits of the season. My vote would go to Kaka although he didn't have a good season at domestic competition.

It's not van Persie's goals ratio I'm talking about, it's the ridiculousness and absurdity of the nominees that made it. Again I'll quote myself about Henry's inclusion in the list. Ronaldinho and Eto'o ain't exactly stellar last season, but due to their fame (and their club's popularity) they just could not be dropped from the list.

If you're talking about players' effect on the team, well as Chrisky puts it, Totti should have been in there, same case with Fabregas. And if Torres deserves to be there, then surely David Villa would not be behind him anyway.

Again, FIFA World Player my foot.

You're right about some of the players on the list is because they are star studded players. Some of the players are in because they play for a big club. However they need to fill up with player so FIFA choose to select big name players. So they failed to recognize some of the players that manage to carry out their duties for their club. This kind of players are the unsung heroes in their club. I think this kind of player should be given recognition.

Agreed. FIFA World Player my foot.

FIFA is merely nominating players based on popularity & fame. How could they left out Totti and why the hell Thuram & R.Marquez did make into the list? Ridiculous.

His younger brother called him "Caca" during younger days because he can't pronounce "Ricardo". Since then everyone call him Kaka. It doesn't mean anything in their native language.

What kind of list is this? No Totti, Ibrahimovic and David Villa.

Look like the winner will either Kaka or C. Ronaldo.

I think based on current form and contribution to clubs and national team, Kaka should win it followed by Lionel Messi and C. Ronaldo.

I think all top footballers are not performing up to their standard. Kaka's form has dropped. same goes to ronaldinho.

Didn't watch Serie A that often nowadays. But the other day I think Roma was held to 4-4 draw at home. That is hell alot of goal to be conceded in that league that was supposedly to be really difficult to score against the defenders.

I agree its a myth but can't deny the most successful Italian teams are all based on great defence ie. catenaccio

not denying that Italian football is well-known for its defensive department, but the days of catenaccio had oledi long gone. nothing conclusive here but Serie A had scored more goals than EPL n La Liga for recent years.

I'm not against Serie A or anything but statistics sometime can be misleading. You see Italy won the WC last year is also based on great defence, that is why automatically ppl will presume the league is also defensive/boring.
Also the league boasts of stars such as Totti, Kaka, Nesta, Ibrahimovic etc. So its hardly boring.
The only drawback is the marketing of the league. It is way behind the marketing of EPL hence the declining of popularity.
As a conclusion, the only advantage I can see EPL held is the impressive marketing.
