yes electronics, clothings etc can make more money than test kits, but are those cronies in control of those companies? if yes then of course they will prioritize those industries over factories that deal with the pandemic

and by locking down and let those industries "suffer", those companies will almost want to collapse, and then the government can come in and bail out those companies and take control over them, kill 2 birds with 1 stone, their cronies can earn from selling test kits, and the lockdown will make many companies go bankrupt and the government can take over them cheaply

Looks more like playing it safe to me. Wait till really confirm that variants for the past few months were not dangerous then only open up.
