RM120 is a bit steep for price..... I have to say that.
Even my GHS Zakk Wylde Signatures cost about 55 a pack....... And FYI, you CAN buy single strings (or Loose strings) if you ask. Maybe you should try out Elixirs...... VERY expensive, (about RM60-70), but they last you a long time as they are anti-rust. |

i bought my d'addario acoustic strings for RM 2.50 a piece...
i think the classical strings are more expensive cos the thicker strings have nylon core bounded by steel.. |

Maybe you can get a cheap bottle of mr brasso metal polish and apply it on the strings when they start changing colors.

Get Fast Fret. It only costs RM20 and it keeps your string alive for a longer period of time.

Guys it's classical guitar strings; they're that kinda price. I've played classical before (up to Grade 7 Trinity accreditation), so I should know =).
Anyway, you can get a real good D'Addario set for RM30+. As you know there's something called inflation and that price was when it was 8 years ago. Maybe it's that RM40 set that you bought LOL. BTW, what brand of strings is that RM120 set? Is it made of natural fibres =S |

QUOTE(SweetTooth @ Oct 11 2007, 09:00 PM) Well it could be said to be a little too late. Anyway use fast fret from the first time you use a new set strings. It works for me. Anyway guitar strings are damn cheap compared to bass strings... So be thankful |

i think you kena potong by the shopowner lo. Even spending RM 75 on my elixirs (folk acoustics) is steep enough. Rm 120 for a set of strings even if it's classical is a ripoff.
TS, if you're just a beginner in guitar, go for cheaper strings. For folk guitars, i'd suggest d'addario (careful of this, some shop pass off electric strings as acoustics) or ernie ball acoustics (brown packaging). For classical, i'm not so familiar with them as i don't use. Grab a bottle of string conditioner or cleaner while you're at it. A bottle of Dunlop string cleaner and conditioner will cost you about 25 bucks max.. while a stick of Fast Fret cleaner is about 20.. The price i stated here is on the high side. |

Wipe your strings down completely, better still grab each individual one with a rag and run the run up and down the whole length. Many people wipe only the top and forget about the bottom part of the string.
Then apply a layer of fast fret before you store the guitar in an enclosed case, keeping your guitar in the open air will only accelerate the deterioration. This post has been edited by supercolossal: Oct 17 2007, 09:57 AM |

a whole set of D'addario would cost me rm17 in guitar collection and rm20 in bentley... i couldn't understan why it cost u rm120 to get a set of strings... rm120 can get u 2 sets of elixirs.. nvr tried those b4, but heard they're really good.... =)
haha, yea.. maybe u kena potong.. go back n hit on that guy even if they're classical strings... it wouldn't cost u rm120... This post has been edited by natchi: Oct 17 2007, 12:15 PM |

D'addario labels their strings as electric/acoustics .. but i've seen packaging with acoustics on it only. Weird but.. i can't explain it.
About elixir, you get what you pay for lo. I really like the nanoweb coating, but with my constant playing, it doesn't last more than a month.. For the first month, it'll be extremely smooth, den after that, plays like normal strings di. All guitarist should have Fast Fret or the dunlop string cleaner/condition in their pack. It'll help prolong the life of your strings. Lastly, any other strings that you guys try besides D'Addario and Ernie Ball acoustics? I'm always on the lookout for new strings to try. So far, only Elixirs satisfy my needs.... perhaps u guys can recommend something else? |
