I help answer only...

yes, can use normal desktop rams or server registered rams. DDR3 gen...
just that have to use all the same type.

no worries...

curious if you don't mind me asking. The non-ECC rams... did it work with 6 x 8GB udimm=48GB?
(I know for registered it works with 8ram sticks..)

According to the manual, it supports a maximum of 24Gb UDIMM.

Capacity : Maximum up to 96GB RDIMM/Maximum up to 24GB UDIMM
