Well, I'm driving a Perdana V6 with all the stock speakers and HU. Recently my 2 rear speakers seems to be broken. At first, there were some of those "pecah" sound but after another 2 weeks, there were just totally no bass at all. So after deliberating for some time, I've finally changed those 2 broken stock speakers to Kenwood's KFC-6970ie (4-way speakers). Wasn't too sure how good it is since I'm a noob in these things. I've also added a pair of MIX (should be cap ayam) tweeters which comes with crossovers. The trebles now sounds good, even better than before with the 2 new tweeters in front and also the tweeters in the 4 way speakers in the rear. However, the bass sounds too weak. Did I missed something? What else can I do to improve the sound, especially the bass. I wasn't planning to add a subwoofer but if that would help a lot, I guess it's do-able. Besides those changes, I've added nothing else so far. I'm prepared to spend around RM500 to RM1k. Can some of the sifus here give some suggestion? Btw, I'm in Kuching.

ur stock HU give u the problem.. change it first... get a HU wif the range of rm 500 - 700 is gud enough... ask for price around... if u wan budget HU, get Eclipse cd1000... the price here is around rm 500-600 ... ur place there i not sure ... ur HU is important as it controls all the energy output to all your 4 speaker.. probably ur stock speaker didn't provide enough watt to your speaker , tatz why u can't feel the bass...
my suggestion is like this simplified..
buy a new HU and do grounding with audio vs...
this will give u some improvement in your ICE

hehe.... dun think the HU is the problem in the first place... mayb you should check your speaker polarity... see if there is a mistake during the installations...
other than tht... what is your new speaker's sensitivity? lower sensitivity speaker need a higher power to power them... mayb your HU amp is not supplying a good amoount of power... but changing to a new HU wont fix it... as most of the aftermarket HU has the same output wattage like the stocks... best is get an amp...
on the other hand... you said your new speaker is 4-way... i am assuming its a coaxial with 3 tweeters on it.... ok... now with 3 pairs tweeters already and you add another 1 pair... well i think your treble is overkilled and your playing volume went down to where your bass feels no kick at all but your treble is way so loud already...
my suggestions... well... nothing to say jus try to decrease your treble level while increase your bass level thts all...
cheers...

Hmm, if the polarity was wrong, would it have work at all?
The sensitivity of the speakers are stated as 93 dB/W/m. Is that highly sensitive or not?
The 4-way actually refers to "a 6" x 9" (153 x 229mm) Pearl-Mica injection-moulded cone woofer', "a 70mm paper cone midrange", "a 20mm balanced dome tweeter and two 20mm dome super-tweeters". By the way, I've tried several combination of settings on the stock HU, mostly with the treble at "0" or even negative and the fader between "R1" and "R2" but it still sounds a bit weak.
Was considering getting a new HU and an amp too but budget a little tight at the moment. Need the cash for something else. So may only be getting one of these and the other one will have to wait for a few more months. Any advice on which one to get first? Besides the Eclipse, any suggestions for good HU around RM1k?

i believe the speaker need more watts and the HU can't provide it. i don't think changing HU will do any good since all HU has around the same power output. better to spent on a good 4 channel amp since you are practically guaranteed to have more deep bass.

go to the any accesories shop... give them duit kopi rm 10... then ask them to test for you..test out the difference between a stock HU and a better HU set..
if really is not your HU problem.. then go ahead for amp... i personally think is still your HU problem that dosn't provide enough output..

hehe.. reversed polarity will only result in the speaker dancing the "terbalik" way...
anyway... based on your situations... i think there is still possibility tht the polarity is reversed... might saved you a ton if you would take sometime to check it...
cheers...
