I am super old school bizman..

I really cant brain these type of "crowd funding" biz..

Recently spoken to a company representative..

Their are making losses, 2022 revenue around 8mil, and their 4 yo company "value at 48Mil" and crowd funded 10M last year.

Damn my company did 20+m revenue, made 4M+, year to year growth more than 100% (partly due to 2021 covid year), then ma worth more 100M liao!
😂😂

Lai half price 50m siapa nak beli please PM. 😂😂

PS: not to boast but really cant brain crowd funding biz, allllll not making money one.. I think they only make money from investors.

Old schooler like me still making honest profit from consumers.

their valuation is always 5x
so this year 8mil in 5 years time should be earning 40mil liao lol ...

Antipodean Coffee is a Kiwi owned and operated Cafe and Coffee Roasting company. The cafe business began in 2009 (Jakarta, Indonesia), the roasting business 2003 (Jakarta, Indonesia). We now have cafes in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Manila.

I know the Antipodean guys- modest not say how much they make but I reckon 20%NP. ZUS is 3%NP? This doesn't make sense to me. Unless the principles taking money out before the bottom line. 3-5% is the model you would see in Sydney or Melbourne on a cafe/resto- ZUS should be hitting 25% NP

Valuation is tricky. When appealing to crowd funding you can be emotive promise the world. Actually in retailing we say a brand is 8-12x NP. So assuming a 500,000rm 4-6,000,000. I cant see the brand being worth 40,000,000 - this is pipedream stuff and as several people have already said- beware the Luckin model. Look- I am not trashing ZUS they have done well but what does the brand offer that is unique? Nothing. This is the barrier for taking on the giants of the business and I am not talking Starbucks. I am talking Indian competition. Need to make unique.

F&B is never easy. Thats about 3% profit margin. Also according to google (dunno can trust or not), average margin for coffee shop is 2.5% - 6%
*
Good point- but not correct. In Malaysia a cafe model- not a complicated one like Yeast or Breakfast Thieves - but a coffee/wrap/cake system based on T/A and a customer count of +/- 100 pax/day should be able to hit a NP of 25-28%. In Indonesia the same model 38-42%. Philippines 12-15%. Only in Singapore. HK and the like would you ever expect a 3% NP - I would expect in Zus case (unless its being mismanaged which you would doubt) the low NP is because they are minimizing tax exposure. That makes sense on one hand- but can adversely affect investor confidence on the other. The appeal to these expanding new players is a potential institutional investor interest in the business- this isn't necessarily because of high NP or EBITDA % but more the coverage they have through Malaysia and the proven trackrecord of attracting massive crowdfunding interest.

I was gonna say the same thing. Considering how fast Zus is expanding, I think they might be reinvesting the profit hence the lowered profit margins?

As far as business point , couldn't see the potential.if all based on investor pumping money in instead of generating healthy profit .

come to think about this, if their product is really great, then why they need to be so aggressive in gaining fundings? if they have a great product, then surely they will be able to grow and capture the market
if they so aggressive in gaining more fundings to expand, then most likely their product sucks and they are just finding waterfishes to fund the expansion of their company or brand
