I'm using Yes 5G 'wireless fibre' (which genius came up with this name?). So far so good, I'm actually impressed with getting as advertised speeds, but I'm frustrated with not being able to tinker with the modem.
Has anyone tried bypassing/replacing the firmware? Or using another 5G cellular modem?
I'm interested to find out if the sim is locked to the modem (is there such a thing? I know phones can be carrier locked) and if the speed cap is on the sim card or on the device itself.
The only thing I've been able to find out is that the modem uses a Quectel RG500Q-EU chip. I can't seem to reverse trace the manufacturer as some spec listings seem different.
Thanks in advance.

The YES system can throttle connection speed via tracking IMEI of the device.
I had a 4G LTE router that got blacklisted by their system, means in phone I can get 20-30Mbps, when the simcard is in the router, I only get 1-2Mbps. Switch to a different 4G dongle, immediately get back 20-30Mbps.
After discovering that, I bought a 4G dongle which can change IMEI.
