Have you seen what is the infection is like in countries like US, Japan, etc.?

China has a population of 1.4 billion. Even if 1 million people are infected also considered normal as it's about the same infection rate for Omicron in other countries.

As for new variants, where is the new XBB 1.5 coming from?

The news all talking about China BF7 as if it's a new variant but the fact is that variant already circulating last year even before China opens. In Malaysia, we already got BF7 in the third quarter of 2022.
