Hi all,

As I'm hacking away the existing front gate column (with ori letterbox) to make way for a wider gate, now considering to make a bigger letterbox to be able to accept some small parcels.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thinking of just asking the contractor to build a concrete/brick wall void with a wide opening at the front, and a metal door at the back. But a bit worried the outcome might not look nice sweat.gif

So would appreciate if anyone can share some pictures if you have done so.

Thanks in advance

Just built a replica of a mini dustbin compartment.

Just a caution ... what can go inside, can also go missing when accessible by anyone from outside.

Make the door like one of those clothes donation box. Once item put in, and the door closed, it will slide to a safe location from being able to be taken out from the front again.

Delivery person not going to waste time on locks. What cannot go into the letterbox, he will throw inside eventhough I am at home sometimes.

Those breakable or big items, I will normally do self collection

Can order ready-made parcel delivery box from Lazada, Shopee or Taobao. Then insert into the front gate pillar. Trouble is to find those parcel boxes with the doors at the back. Most of the standard designs are more suitable for China or other country, where owners open from the frontage of the box.

For Malaysia, usually we prefer to open the box inside our gates and not front. I have found some suppliers from Taobao that offer multiple doors for the box. But, the shipping cost is not cheap. So, I decide to find a local supplier to fabricate.

That's a good link, didn't know they have them ready made. Have you fabricated yours? Could you share your design?

Why not just custom made a stainless steel letter box?

When my parents renovated the house many years ago, they included a built-in letter box. The problem is if you get those big letters aka like those annual report from listed companies, they would just fold it and stuck 20% of the tip into the box. Sometimes when there is a lot of letters, they also folded it half and also insert 20-30% of the tip. There are times when the postmen just fold it into half and stuff it between the grills of my gate.

You can take a look into this link https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=610683986163 for alternative design. If you order from Lazada or Shopee, I think those local sellers will do back-to-back orders to the respective Chinese sellers.

Standard design has one drawback i.e. to open the parcel dopping door, you have to pull down and leave the parcel on top of the door before closing. If the parcel delivery man open and forget to close appropriately, it could be a disaster when it rains. I have not completed my design. Probably will get a local supplier to draw a design that needs to lift the dropping door up in order to drop the parcel into the access hole.

This is my existing letter box and waste bin stand. Big parcels are left above the letter box if no one is at home. So far nothing gone missing.

It came with tbe house.when I purchased it.

thanks for the info. above the letterbox, meaning need to rotate your picture by 90 degrees ya?

i see there's a grill at the inside part of the opening, meaning you will need to collect the parcel from the outside right?

Ya.

Only for very big parcels. Smaller packing can retrieve from inside.

My unit came with this little shelter for parcel and food delivery. Would still get wet during heavy rain but since most of the parcels have waterproof outer packaging so it's fine. Good thing is this space can fit big/many items esp during shopping season ๐Ÿ˜†
