Maybe it's already time for the scene to have this. A definite ranking to track your performance. To make tournaments more worthy apart from bragging rights, money and prizes.

What would you say to this? hmm.gif

ranking for most of the popular compy games in msia.

Bigger tourney more points, then smaller compy that runs in the same format lesser points.

The main thing is, whos gonna keep track of all the compy lolx.

INTRODUCTION

With the conclusion of 5 major ACG/E-Club sanctioned Counter-Strike 1.6 tournaments, we are now proud to announce a ranking ladder for the Malaysian Counter-Strike competitive gaming scene.

Teams that participate in ACG/E-Club sanctioned tournaments will be awarded points and ranked based on how they finish.

The purpose of this ranking ladder is for future tournament seeding. Teams will be seeded according to their rank for future ACG/E-Club sanctioned tournaments.

Ranking Structure and Points Format

Single Elimination Format Tournaments

Top Four (4) Teams will be awarded points based on how they place.

1st: 16
2nd: 8
3rd: 5
4th: 3

Eligibility

Only tournaments with a prize pool of RM1500 or more will be taken into consideration.

Teams will only be considered for seeding for a new tournament, if the team consists of Three (3) of the original members that have been ranked for previous tournaments.
Just reposted from the ACG site provided by Auricom to facilitate discussion. May I enquire how the points of 16 , 8 ,5 and 3 are determined ? Is it tested and proven to be effective from other leagues around the world? And why not use F1 and EPL league ranks for example to rank it ?

Seeding according to this idea will be perfect for future tournaments so it will avoid a lot of controversy of the seedings being done in future tournaments.

GotFrag.com has a comprehensive system developed for CS (based on FIFA) here: http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/nationsrankingrules

I think before we all leap forward and spend countless days/posts to even agree on a standard, nles has raised a valid question:

Who will keep track of all this?

The system I used for Fifa is quite simple.

We take the Top-8 of the tournament.
Top player gets 8 points, 8th player gets 1 point. And based on results superiority, everyone gets their points accordingly.

So ideally, we should have :-
1st place - 8 points
2nd place - 7 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 5 points
5th place - 4 points
6th place - 3 points
7th place - 2 points
8th place - 1 point

Now because in reality, tournaments are either single elim or double elim format. So we have to adjust the scoring system a bit, because although there is a clear top-4, there isn't a clear 5-8 placing.

Single-Elim

1st place - 8 points
2nd place - 7 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 5 points
QF place - ? points
QF place - ? points
QF place - ? points
QF place - ? point

5th to 8th place was supposed to be this way:-
5th place - 4 points
6th place - 3 points
7th place - 2 points
8th place - 1 point

And because now the QFinalists are all equal in status, so we have:-
QF place - (4+3+2+1)/4 points = 2.5 points
QF place - (4+3+2+1)/4 points = 2.5 points
QF place - (4+3+2+1)/4 points = 2.5 points
QF place - (4+3+2+1)/4 points = 2.5 points

So we end up with this for Single Elimination:-
1st place - 8 points
2nd place - 7 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 5 points
QF place - 2.5 points
QF place - 2.5 points
QF place - 2.5 points
QF place - 2.5 point

Double-Elim

1st place - 8 points
2nd place - 7 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 5 points
5-6 place - ? points
5-6 place - ? points
7-8 place - ? points
7-8 place - ? point

For double elim, instead of a clear 5, 6, 7, 8 placing, we have joint 5-6 placing and also joint 7-8 placing.

5th to 6th place was supposed to be this way:-
5th place - 4 points
6th place - 3 points

And because now the 5-6 are now in equal status, so we have:-
5-6 place - (4+3)/2 points = 3.5 points
5-6 place - (4+3)/2 points = 3.5 points

Same goes for 7th to 8th place :-
7-8 place - (2+1)/2 points = 1.5 points
7-8 place - (2+1)/2 points = 1.5 points

So we end up with this for Double-Elim:-
1st place - 8 points
2nd place - 7 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 5 points
5-6 place - 3.5 points
5-6 place - 3.5 points
7-8 place - 1.5 points
7-8 place - 1.5 points

I think this is a good idea. You need a third party group to do this kind of tabulation to make sure that there will be fairness all around. However, they need to come up with a procedure for it.

WE PES : ? ----> Munwai biggrin.gif

Usually Chilaxis will do the seeding and gave the headmarshal/organizer the results of ranking. Sometimes it alse depends whether the organizer wants to use it or not.

The idea have been around for sometime. Just that nobody working fully on it. On a non-commercial real sports body-like basis I mean.
I believe sooner or later, the scene will need this association. With Olympic Council of Asia already have one event that features eSports, we might need it sooner than we thought. hmm.gif

well i have some idea like urs chap...was thinking about it for quite a while...creating a community site which keep track on a local gaming scene , reviews on games, organize malaysia championship tournaments like a malaysian cyber gaming league or something, getting sponsorship to sponsor pro gaming teams make pro gamers get paid to play like its their full-time job and becoming something like MYM , SK-GAMING or TEAM3D. i would not mind sitting down n discussing bout this with u guys. Cos i was thinking if our neighbour country Singapore could bloom in the cyber gaming scene they have pro gaming teams sponsored by big companies, many on going local lan tournaments n parties, even a singapore gaming association. hehe y not malaysia ?

Im really impressed at the local gaming scene recently, after seeing more world class tournaments like WGT , CGS. During my gaming days there was only WCG in 2001 and way before that only local tourneys held by cybercafe's.

I believe many have the same idea. As you mentioned, the ultimate target would be getting the players/teams to be professional.

But let's do it one step at a time. smile.gif

LOL, hix routing for his homeboy! notworthy.gif

Alright, the ranking. This is my thoughts.

Keeping track is not hard actually as our scene doesn't have that many events yet (except for DotA). FIFA and CS already laid down a very strong foundation, we can just adapt their point system with some alteration to make it suitable with respective games.

Since it's already at the end of 2007, I suggest we start in 2008. notworthy.gif
