I had epson printer before and got the blockages issue as well. Sent to printer service center and they said they cant do much with the blockage. they said epson good if you're using it frequently and it going to be costly to be replaced.
I end up buying canon printer which did not having this issue even not using it for months.

I know you are asking because you want to rejuvenate your ink printer, but I am happy that I switched to a colour laser printer all those years ago. I don't print that much, so having a laser printer that is ready to go without the hassle of worrying about the print head clogging has been priceless.

A quick check online shows a Brother brand colour laser at slightly above RM 1k, with compatible toner cartridges at RM 55 each. Just thought you might want to consider this solution.

If you want to own ink tank printer, make sure you set schedule in your pc to print a color test page every 2 weeks if you dont use your printer regularly.

My brother T700w also got blockage few times. After the 2nd visit to brother service center, google up how to clean blockage, diy myself and search for remedy. After setting schedule for a test print every fortnight, I never had a single blockage since 1.5 years ago.

After being in the printer cartridge biz for years. I'll avoid ink cartridges. Firstly, the print head will get clogged due to infrequent usage and can be quite messy if there's leakage.

If one doesn't requires colour print, just stick to monochrome laser printer.

Dip the print head (nozzle) in warm water for 15-20minutes. Then use a syringe, try to push air through. Dont use too much force though. I'm not sure how different the design of the print head between Brother and Epson. For me, I was able to unscrew the nozzle, clean the inner side and the rubber seal from any ink leftover. Then I dried them before putting everything back together.

The only problem one might run into is bubble inside the ink lines. It happened with mine and I forgot what I did to fix it. It didnt print for the first few days but fixed itself after a couple of days of print test.

Just avoid those cartridges without print head then. Canon PG47/57 for example has print head on every cartridges. I used to have this MG5500 which CYMB with a main print head. Holy cow, it just doesnt make sense to replace the print head given the cost.

Just doo very very deep cleaning.. it will fix. I use oem ink. It hard to clogged. Rarely use printer. Do deep cleaning using computer yea.

My hp monochrome laser printer of 20 years still running good. Whenever i need a color print, just send it to the shop.

What material do you use to wipe the printer head? I am afraid to scratch the delicate fine pores

Firstly i will say that ink tank printers is for user that needs to print regularly. Even once a week. It is not for users that only uses it 4 times a year for kids quarterly school projects. Even though you only print 150 pages per session, you do not qualify to use such printer. Simply because the printer is not designed to stay idle at all. Already said this many years since the existence of the add on version. No one listens.

Also for TS, original bottled ink for tank printer is already cheap. In your case RM25 per color is very low with combined color printing that is good for more than 4000 pages. That is as cheap as it gets. For your problem of head blockages, refer above.

While the blocked print head is replaceable, it is not a tool less affair. Need more work than Canon G3xxx series. If you are not willing to cough up the RM3xx price for a original print head, and you are not confident about using a cheaper RM1xx print head, then junk the printer and save up for laser.

One very common issue with people is that they want to save money then buy ink tank expecting it to last , but never try to maintain it properly. If you buy ink tank printers you have to use it frequently , or best is 1 week or so photocopy something with all the colors so that your nozzle won't dry up.

Canon or HP still can buy the printheads and replace yourself but Epson tough luck , gotta waste time bring into service centre and replace.

the printer service shop I bring also said the same. It going to cost more and better buy a new one then repairing the head blockage

I saw some printers have automatic ink flush, I guess those models you just have to refill ink tank/change ink catridge even if didn't use long time. Some fancy ones I remember have temp. and print head humidity sensor to determine best automatic cleaning if long time didn't print.

If your inktank printer is already quite old then yes can consider buying a new one which suits your needs rather than replacing the printheads as there might be issues with the roller soon as it made out of rubber and u know as time goes by rubber will have wear and tear , another fee to pay if it or other things fail.

Since most of you said the print head needs replacement, I might as well go do a deep cleaning.

Soak in warm water, say below 60C.

soak the print head in warm water ? wont the circuit board get short ?

for occasional printing... dont get ink tank.. get laser if bw only requirement and if colour.. get those cartridge with printhead like the old days.. long time no print/clogg buy new cartridge cheaper

Only soak the ink spray nozzle section into warm water. But such technique is only valid for ink cartridges. Not ink tank print head because there are no ink pressure ready to purge out once the blockage is cleared.

You also do now know the print mileage of the separate pint head compared to cartridge one. Typical 150 pages vs 7000-15000. Unless you can prove that you can unclog the ink tank print head without using the clean/ flush feature, then I rest my case.

For the print head, you can wipe it with alcohol wipe and DON'T USE WATER.

Print head is very expensive, usually they will just replace the whole printer instead if the warranty expired.

TS got show his printer model right? You can google how that model ink tank works right? Neither Canon nor Epson uses cartridge ink tanks. So that video not even valid for this case at all.
