The charging circuitry in the laptop is using a common one for both power brick or USB. The power brick is optimized for that particular laptop but if you are buying 3rd party, you need to find the one that can match the power supplied by power brick.

One thing to know is that a full blown USB-C power can go up to 5A at 20V, which means 100W. The power brick for certain laptop can be higher than this, thus no way the USB can charge faster. Anyway, what's so fancy about charging using USB since you still use power adapter to the wall. It is just like either you carry power brick or carry USB power adapter

GAN charger much smaller. I'm using it. the type-C 100w cable is also much smaller man. of course 100w/120w gan charger isn't cheap and yes depending on laptop the one i'm using supports up to 65w fast charging only.

Smaller just because it is using different component which is more expensive than normal silicon counterpart. If same component, both would be the same still.

I'd be more worry on my USB connector because on even standard USB 2 the connector is not so robust. The USB C is even more fragile for me

This is because I've seen many has problem with phone USB C. I normally use wireless charging for phone.
