Dear Sifus,

I have recently bought a CORSAIR 4000D Airflow mid-tower casing. I am planning to migrate my old ALIENWARE X51 into this new case.
In order to do that, a new PSU is required. I am currently deciding between CORSAIR CV650 and EVGA 600GD.

Some of the prominent differences based on my research:
EVGA 600GD (~RM280)
600W
80+ GOLD
5 years warranty
Fan size 120mm

CORSAIR CV650 (~RM250)
650W
80+ BRONZE
3 years warranty
Fan size 140mm

Personally, I had used a couple of PSUs from CORSAIR but none from the EVGA.
So what are the thoughts on these 2 entry-level PSUs? Specifically on the build quality/after-sales service/RMA for each brand?

Open to recommendation for any PSUs below RM300

CX 650 is a much better choice than the CV, in my opinion. You can't cheap out too much when it comes to PSUs.

While the EVGA is 80+ Gold, but it's based on an ACRF topology and not the improved ACRF design found on the EVGA G5, with mediocre quality components. icon_idea.gif
The Corsair CV is better, but the issue is that it's rated for full power at only 30C which is rather undesirable for our weather icon_idea.gif

For that budget the Silverstone Viva Gold is a much better choice (it's based on a High Power platform, and performs decently) icon_idea.gif

Efficiency does not dictate quality, and there are 80+ Bronze units that perform better than some gold rated ones out there icon_idea.gif

thanks for the input! Got my hands on the EVGA PSU last week.
Just realized it does not come with a UK plug.
Is this common across all EVGA PSU sold in Malaysia?

Thanks. Yeah, I recently upgraded the GPU on my own rig. Will be migrating my old ALIENWARE X51 out and pair it with my old GPU for my parents' usage.

Ahhhh!!! That's some good stuff that you shared with us. How I wish I could had read this comment before I pulled the trigger on the EVGA PSU last week.
Will definitely seek your advice should I ever need to purchase any PSU in the future.
Highly appreciated your input SIFU!

This common. And for RMA need to send to USA. But very reliable, mine comes with 10 years warranty.

Thanks for the suggestion. I plan to reuse the power cord previously came together with my ALIENWARE X51.

Oh really. Thanks for confirming.
Since both EVGA & CORSAIR are both American companies, it's weird to see EVGA PSU came without an UK plug while a couple of CORSAIR PSU that I had previously owned/still owned all packed with an UK plug out of the box.

Anyway, just curious, have you performed a RMA on EVGA PSU before? Like how long does it takes normally? How much does it cost to ship to the USA?

Personally I would get the Corsair. For psu l find quality of the components much more critical than power efficiency rating. A high quality PSU can last for multiple PC upgrades..

IINM PSU brands will put in the relevant plug type to the country/region of sales, so likely those brought in officially would come with UK plug. Some parallel importers that got their stocks from SG or UK would do too but online sellers likely got from elsewhere, your probably got their stocks from China or Australia retailer.
