I have a SATA SSD using an external 2.5” enclosure. Is it better to format the drive to APFS or HFS+?

APFS is the better choice for SSD. It will work fine with Macs but it is not compatible with Windows computers.

Will use it purely for Mac and not Windows. Wasn't sure to either go with APFS or HFS+ as I've read some forums says that APFS is better for SSD with PCIe and HFS+ for SATA

APFS if you strictly use on newer Mac. MacOS 10.13 and above.
HFS+ if you using with a mix of old and new Mac. ExFAT if you using with Mac & PC (other OS). |
