Head of Finance generally is more of a management role rather than a technical one. So management qualities are equally if not more important, although knowledge is key
honest answer, your qualification and experience will only contribute 20%. Unless you are a star performer with groundbreaking business contributions, even 5-7 years is possible.
Visibility and networking will bring you further than paper qualification. Sadly, politics and some luck also plays a part : being in the right role, at the right time, under the right boss
Focus on showing leadership qualities early in your career by being vocal and someone who is a self starter. When you have the chance, show your bosses your capability to lead and coach others.
Results is important, but it is more important for the management to notice your results and contributions, or you will just end up as a work horse in the eyes of your management.
