just to let you guys know that although maxsoft aka MM soft has started selling at its jusco and best denki counters, the wii is not considered "officially available" in Malaysia yet.

if anyone bothers, an "official" launch with real support from nintendo JP is on the cards but i guess no one really cares anymore anyways.

and no, im not going to post the estimated date because i'm a fraud.

very true.....i was surprised myself when i started to survey the prices lately. i think this scenario still holds true overseas like US or Europe where it's cheaper to get a Wii instead of the other two next-gen consoles but not here.

and think about it, you have all these added costs should you be interested in playing retro games ie. GC controller, classic controller......it all just sums up to about the same as it's rival. whistling.gif

Still cheaper than the inflated price I got it for tongue.gif

Such is the pain for being the first few...and now I am leaving the scene..sadness biggrin.gif

Toy R Us bundle seems to be the better deal, although Best Denki might be cheap but no extra wiimotes makes a Wii owner sad.

bundle or not , it wont really make wii cheaper anyway , i just felt better to get core unit then buy whatever addon or games u want , rather than getting stupid bundle. RM1299 seems like a deal to mine , which i paid RM2000 nearly a year ago.

The price is still at Xbox 360 range, which it should not be.I'll wait for the price to drop to RM1000 and below or some killer game that forces me to get a Wii is released, then I'll consider.

it's currently selling better than it's competitors and is billed to be the 'cheapest' among the three, do you really think a price drop is in the cards soon ?!?! shocking.gif

very strange that Maxsoft only gives 3 months warranty from date of purchase for both DS and Wii.

How's the warranty deal like with the Wii bundle from Toys'R'Us? Is it the same?

1 complete Set of US Console(with remote and nunchunk) with wii sport
1 Wii Remote
1 Wii nonchunk
1 Sonic & secret of ring(cannot be changed)

and Most importantly, 3 months of warranty only......

Its quite expensive, but at least you will not be cheated, like replaced your wii remote with fake remote. And hey you got "SIRIM" sticker....lolx

I heard from DJiN the credit card thing only works if your country set to Brazil, anyone tried Singapore Yet? They should make a Malaysia in the country list !

the Wii sports bundled inside comes in a cardboard sleeve instead of those standard dvd-styled casing, very unimpressive. i remembered seeing someone selling their US Wii on the forum and his wii sports comes in a dvd case.... do they all come in cardboard sleeve/jacket now?

not that it matters to most but as a game collector, i tend to be a bit picky about these things.... nod.gif

sure. You can buy any accessories separately, such as:

03) Sensor bar (3rd party);
04) Official 220v power adapter;

however, we didn't manage to gather the pricing for accessories. Thanks for pointing out. Will start gathering price list for official items.

What he mean is, if u invest in modded Wii (can play ori& jack sparrow game), scare u can't play online game in future...Mostly the latest gen console won't allow u 2play online game if u mod ur machine (correct me if i'm wrong) brows.gif

Btw, anybody getting new games lately? I'm damn boring..haha

Actually...mod games can be played online for the Wii...

Theres something unique about the Wii modchips that i cant explain but Nintendo cant detect it...

I own a mod Wii....but i only play oris mainly because i respect the developers for their hardwork they do on games, so why not i play the ori?

Plus oris retain their price points for the future unlike fakes whereby they go down to basically nothing..

FUD. All attempts at new methods of copy protection (like the one in SMG) have so far been remedied by modchip updates issued by the modchip devteams.

The games do not use any kind of serial identification for online play, so there's no online play issue (so far), either. Yes, because of the lack of any central online system ala Xbox Live, you can freely play online using backup copies. As far as i know, game servers are handled seperately by game publishers, so there is no such thing as machine bricking or Live account banning like with the 360.

Face it, for now there's little to no drawback in playing backup copies of games on modified machines. I personally wish that nintendo could do something about this, but the drive-based modchips out in the market now are pretty impossible to detect by software means; i.e. there is not much that nintendo can do even by their firmware updates.

my reply is to encourage more support on non-modded consoles with support of ori games...

not encouraging more reasons or hopes or ways to get a modded wii to support piracy.

u sounded like u r so great, but at the sametime u r telling ppl how to use the back door.

GREAT JOB! icon_rolleyes.gif

spoon, how the hell do you hold that nunchuk+wiimote gun combo? The nunchuk's light as hell and the wiimotehas 2 AA batteries inside.

Hmm, the wii zapper's 2-hand design starts to make sense now.

The launch price in japan was Y25,000, which when converted to RM by today's exchange rate is about RM730. Looks like some shops went ahead and did some price cutting, those lucky japans!

The US Wii was launched at US$249. That's about RM835. Note, though, that the JP wii doesn't come with wii sports.

I'd say the JP machines are not marked up as badly as US machines here in malaysia.

Why? Many reason contribute to this issue:

1. Tax issue
2. Service charge
3. Transportation charge& etc

Do nintendo machines get properly taxed in malaysia? As far as i know we don't have an "official" supplier (other than that singaporean company that recently started selling stuff in Jusco), so everything you see in the market are parallel imports.

Since these importers bring in units in limited quantities, price stays high, and individual shops make money by marking them up even higher, so there you go, RM1250 for a US$250(RM832) merchandise.

nintendo wii & ds has been selling like hot cakes, and the cheapest among the new gen consoles. i think this is why there is no reason for a price cut unless nintendo feels that its been earning too much and wanted to gives some back.

FYI, the latest Wii console comes with d2c chipset, which is quite difficult to mod...

Hi guys,I am considering buying wii(us) modded with wiikey.
I have asked my friend what's the price and she told me rm1550.
She actually doesn't sell wii(us) but can help me to order.I was wondering if this price is considerable or not.

Your answer is much appreciated.

1. Sure, Wii only supports 480i and 480p so does not take full advantage of HDTV. Normal TV works fine. After all, the package comes with composite cable only.
2. Wiimote
3. I thinks it's around RM 1700-1900 (depends on modded or non-modded), with 2 controllers
4. I think so. Having a keyboard will be easier (I believe the latest firmware supports USB keyboard)

As I've heard/read, that price comes bundled with games, which is a good thing.

But it boils down to warranty, if you purchase it from SG, you'll have to send it back there for repairs should anything happen.

Warranty, if you're a US resident(buying and living in US), it could be lifetime tongue.gif For Malaysian, dependent on your seller, might not accept ALL problems. As for buying in SG, chances are probably better as for ethics, plus, Nintendo has a HQ there.

As usual with the other consoles, like PS2 and etc. etc. If not possible to send back to HQ, sellers technician would do the job.

The stepdown adapter is just an adapter to manipulate the voltage intake in to the Wii.

US/JP power sockets, and our local power sockets are different, so if you don't use a stepdown adapter on our sockets, something will "blow" up in your Wii or power adapter. Rendering your Wii unusable.

That is why I am asking for it, see my previous posting. Actually the adapter is cheap only ie. rm20. if the seller is generous, he will just bundle it.

I dont think it's pirated. The total price is around RM2300. Seems like a good deal. If you are at Australia should definitely get it. The only thing about getting a unmodded PAL console is going to be a bit hard to find games here. Most of it is NTSC. Wii has a region lock.

Been keeping an eye on the items on Ebay.
They are all in the format, NTSC (US, Canada).

I checked my TV, and it's in PAL but can switch to NTSC3.58/4.43.
Is that okay?
I will also be getting a FreeLoader later, since it's in NTSC and most of the games here are PAL version.
(Anyone using FeeLoader? Is it safe?)

I have never touched a Wii before, one last question to make me feel better deciding, is it really that FUN? I personally like the shooting game, will it be shooting out of range and not accurate like the old MicroGenius shooting duck game?
Hope you know what I mean.

Thanks. wink.gif

I have a PAL console cause i was studying in Melbourne and I must say the Freeloader works fine. Games in msia actually costs cheaper than in aussie....

But of course the drawback is that its troublesome if u have too many games that needs freeloader. Secondly, you will have no idea if future firmwares will block this program. Having said that, Nintendo's updates so far has not been mandatory and do not add much to the Wii so its safe if u don't update. Also, Datel (the company that released freeloader) will probably release newer versions of the product (which you have to buy) if that happens to counter the new firmware.

So all in all, Freeloader works now. Weigh the pros and cons and decide yourself.

Pros:
-It works!
-Safer than modding
-Cheap (Freeloader + US game = AUS game)

Cons:
-A bit troublesome
-May be blocked in the future

Answering your other question, Wii IS fun. Provided you buy the AAA games and not all the crap games that companies are releasing to take advantage of the Wii's success. So do your research first.

Secondly, its more fun with more ppl. I invested in 4 controllers and the fun factor really pays off because every Friday night my friends come over to have a good time.

About shooting games.....there aren't that many out there but i heard that House of the Dead 2 & 3 have near flawless aiming system.

Hope that helps

Added on April 13, 2008, 3:15 pmOn another note, does anyone know if online works in Malaysia? If yes what region do you set to? I'm sure there are no servers in Malaysia.....

Thanks for the reply, really clear my mind alot. biggrin.gif
Interested in Resident Evil and some Army Game.
Yea, I will have my friends to play with me here, as I will look dumb playing alone waving the stick. Haha.

The Wii can actually support more than 2 players?
4 players on Mario Kart no problem?

Where did you get the Freeloader? Do you think game shops sell them? Or I must get from Play-Asia?
So NTSC (US, Canada) Freeloader for NTSC Format Wii is the one I should get?
Or I get NTSC Freeloader for NTSC Game, and PAL Freeloader for PAL Game?
Dumb question, but just to make sure.

Update:
The seller send me a message saying,
"The consoles has already got Freeloader chip built-in."
Is that possible?

Hi to all the Wii sifu...

I'm planning to buy a Wii...
I have a few questions to ask;

1. Where to buy? looking for fair price and honest shop

2. Which to buy? moded or unmoded

3. Must know for buying a Wii

I've read a pages from the wii thread, frankly i'm still a bit confused most probably because i'm outdated. laugh.gif

Wanted to buy a few games, maybe some accesories like gun or steering wheel at one shot so would appreciate it if sifu can point me the right direction. Thank You! thumbup.gif

I only one thing to say if you want modded console. You have to be sure on what modchip they are using. Like the wiikey or D2c. There are many clones out in the market and the clones dont work that well. So, do some research before buying a modded console.

meaning Wiikey & D2C are more reliable one la.

I think that's the price that has been floating around for quite some time. Do more price checks with some retailers, or you can even try checking the Garage Sales.

Did you ask them what kinda of package they were offering?

If could be an extra game, or a pair of Wiimote and Nunchucks.

But RM1599 I would say that's kinda steep.

Yes, the standard US moded set, no extra nunchucks or wiimote, just a additional step down adapter. = RM1599
Official set at Best Denki or Jusco or Tecasia (standard package) also with RM1699.00

@ shinjin: Well, maybe with that price they're offering a longer warranty.

@ interferens: Wiimote's about be about less than RM150.. Maybe RM130, plus minus. Can get it at most game retailers, or even here in LYN's Garage Sale.

Check with the game retailers like Djinn, SCE, and etc. etc.

Have not bought one, cause mine works fine.

Hi all,

I am considering to get a wii coz it is FUUUNNN. I tested it yesterday when I was at Queensbay, Penang. However, the package seems to differ abit. The price is still RM 1699 for the US wii Sports but the Sonic game is no longer bundled it seems.

Anyone can throw some light into this? Buying from Jusco good? I am planning to go ori for this one thumbup.gif

That seems rather steep, especially when it comes without a game. Why not plan a trip down here to KL and purchase from our trusted sellers? (or get them to send to you)

Can PM me some list of such trusted sellers? I have left console gaming since the end of PS1 and have only been reading up on the wii and its competitors these couple of days. What is the usual bundle for an ori US set? I tried contacting one seller and asked some honest questions but got bombarded cry.gif

@ jeff: I can't give you approximated price, but I can tell you it's more or less RM1300 like what yawhong said.

It's best if you ask these guys to help you out. Just to add, if you're going original(US-set preferred), you can't go wrong with Gamers Hideout(other shops too, see below).

That's why i said depends on ur budget and yeah ur gaming style. If u prefer to sit through one game from start until finish and explore its details, then u buy the unmodded one.

One ori wii game would cost a little under a hundred something to almost 2 hundred. You should also look at Wii used games market if there's any.

Yeah. Either way, it should work out to the same I think...

I just want Wii Fit + Guitar Hero... maybe modded version is the better way.

errr...modded wii is to play other region games (since jap wii can't play us game n us wii can't play jap games...this is also true for gamecube games that u wanna play on the wii) and of coz to play ehem games smile.gif

fake wii boards n guitar? not that i know of smile.gif

but seriously, are the games on wii really suits your taste? or do u prefer the ones offered by xbox360 and ps3? Coz the price is not much of a diff nowadays. So u better think it through.

Games are very scarce in terms of originality in Malaysia, because the demand is shifted to pirated software. So, if your main focus is only the Wii Fit and Guitar Hero, then u won't regret getting the unmodded version one.

But venturing to other games will be ur problem since the only way, sadly, is to buy thru online.

Question - will the Wii Fit and Guitar Hero screw up on a modded version?

I just realised the only way if I got the modded would be to go modded forever so I won't suffer any... chip problems.

Hey folks, i just got back from a Wii Session with my friends ( yeah it was my first time playing it), and i am ABSOLUTELY hooked onto it. I plan to buy a Wii for myself, and I am told that there are 2 versions, the Jap and the US.

I would want a modded one, so would you recommend me the Jap or the US ( Wii Sports is a must), and have really no idea about the pricing, can you guys point out some important tips to me, give me suggestions on which set to get, where and how much is the estimated price.

Thanks a bunch. biggrin.gif

if Wii Sport is a must, then you'll have to get the US version
Jap version doesn't comes with Wii Sport

US ver interface are all in english, while Jap ver are in Japanese only

US set will be more expensive than the Jap set, usually 1 or 2 hundred more expensive due to the bundled Wii Sport

For pricing of the modded consoles, I think it's better you ask few of the online sellers like bernard or sce

You are right.... if you understand japanese for the menu.
However, if you solely play games, there is only 1 channel to click which is the top left channel, so japanese language wont bother you.
However as i was planning to get a japanese wii, i end up buying the US wii, cause testing 2 machines, i like the all the english language... oh well, self preference and also budget limitation smile.gif

The wii jap is not hard to use. But you might find that you will be using it for games only, thre is more other thing in wii such as the miis and setting, memory, etc. But if you get familirize with which icons to press, then it would be no prob using the jap wii.

I tested on both when i bought my wii, like the US ver one. And the US ver come with wii sport. smile.gif

When I turn it off at the power switch or just put it on standby, all my other tv channels are ok (incl. astro) turn it on and the snow, lines, grains and sparkles return. *sigh*

Don't you guys think the current price (local) of Wii is kinda ridiculous?

US price from Toys R Us
Wii, SSBB, 2 controller, 2 nunchuk = USD359.96 = RM1,188
Xbox360 Pro 60Gb = USD349.99 = RM1,155
PS3 40Gb = USD399.99 = RM1,320

Whereas our local price
Wii US, 2 controller, 2 nunchuk, no free game except bundled Wii Sport = RM1,600
Xbox360 Pro 20Gb = RM1,300
PS3 40Gb = RM1,300

Why is this happening? Aren't Wii are suppose to be the cheapest among all three next-gen consoles? Are we screwed by our local vendors?

I always wanted to buy a Wii, but after checking the current price of all consoles, I'm having a second though right now sad.gif
With RM1300 I can get a more powerful machine, either PS3 or X360
I find it difficult to justify of adding another RM300 just for a Wii

FYI, I'm a Ninty supporter since the Watch&Play era, I find the current ridiculous price of local Wii very difficult to swallow sweat.gif

*
I agree too...luckily i was one of the first few to get it when the price was still low. If I haven't got a wii right now, I would hv think twice buying it seeing how the price is higher than the ps3 and the 360. Even the game price are at par with those two.

BTW, does our local Toys r Us have consoles for sale?

Don't you guys think the current price (local) of Wii is kinda ridiculous?

US price from Toys R Us
Wii, SSBB, 2 controller, 2 nunchuk = USD359.96 = RM1,188
Xbox360 Pro 60Gb = USD349.99 = RM1,155
PS3 40Gb = USD399.99 = RM1,320

Whereas our local price
Wii US, 2 controller, 2 nunchuk, no free game except bundled Wii Sport = RM1,600
Xbox360 Pro 20Gb = RM1,300
PS3 40Gb = RM1,300
Why is this happening?  Aren't Wii are suppose to be the cheapest among all three next-gen consoles?  Are we screwed by our local vendors?

Wait, Unmodded Wii is around 1400? How come I got mine unmodded from Bernard at 1200?

1400 would be with extra wii mote and nunchunk.

Actually, if you could find a way to get it at USD250 (Without GST) through someone at the states, you should. But looking at how people have to line up and wait for the stuff to arrive is the hard part. The transportation and taxes makes the price jacked up.

BTW, it's true what Kyo said, unmodded shouldn't be at rm1400...should be something from RM1.2K - 1.3K only for US version. Try n ask around somemore if u still wanna get it. If not, well there's always 360 n ps3.

Besides wii sport and the occasional ghost squad session, my wii seems to be collecting dust right now. But I'm keeping it coz I wanna play it with my family during gatherings. smile.gif It's a great party machine..other than that..put it to rest.

Seriously, your wii collecting dust?
I had only wii, although considering buying a xbox but, i dont think i got so much time for gaming...
BUt seriously, not much of the price either wii or other console, but is more of the library of games you got in each console, wii seem to be lagging with serious games and more to casual games sad.gif

yeap, RM1400 unmodded US Wii with extra nunchuk & Wiimote
no free games, except Wii Sport

Toys R Us in US
selling similar package at RM1,188, bundled with SSBB some more

How to justify for the cutthroat price here? doh.gif

Now the only thing pulls me back from getting a PS3 is my crt TV, no more budget for a LCD TV, and also PS3 will be sendiri syok only, my family members won't be able to enjoy it sad.gif

1. Wii is high demand, leading to jacked up prices from people who wait in line.
2. Transportation for the Wii's aren't cheap.
3. The people selling Wii had definitely had to pay some "money" to lepas taxes.

Did u noe that those in the states that buy the Wii lined up for it, and actually when they got it, sold it to the people who just came to the long line?

Dun get the wrong idea bro...the reason it's collecting dust is coz I hv finish all the games like metroid prime, zelda, RE4, mario, No more heroes, medal of honor heroes 2 and others and also because I dun play online due to the lagginess of streamyx in my area. It took me about a year b4 finally buying another console so that I can have a healthy cycle of games.

It's true wii lack games with mature themes, and that is why one reason I got another one to quench my thirst for blood. happy.gif Other than that, wii is a good way to get u moving happy.gif

I am not sure where to ask this but i started to enjoy some games yesterday. I am wondering, is it possible to play single tennis match in Wii Sports?

I can only select doubles match though. Is it possible to disable the AI?

1. Don't count your melons that the Wii came from Sg. It's straight from the states, and the local distributors, just like anyone else probably at the states, have to go through a whole lot to get the Wii's.
2. Check out the 360. People complained a lot about it's jacked up price, especially when you compare it with the PS3. PS3 are mostly from Sg. so our local distributors could just get it there. And also, the Wii is just too hot in demand. Ebay is the best place to see the jacked up prices.

so i bought the 2nd hand wii.... and it's giving snow/sparkles/grainy noise.

When I turn it off at the power switch or just put it on standby, all my other tv channels are ok (incl. astro) turn it on and the snow, lines, grains and sparkles return. *sigh*

So I hope to return it later.

DS also have. I don't know whether my pricing is competitive cos it's the Suggested Retail Price. But I'll make up for it in other ways. Like washing your car, feeding your cats, etc. tongue.gif

That's great news. Bravo Maxsoft! It's about time someone takes up the distribution rights for the wii. I mean, it is the MOST popular console of this generation.

On a side note. A good selection of wii games can be found at Gamer's Hideout in Cineleisure. That's where I have been buying my games for almost 2 years now.

Can't wait for wii music, wii sports tropical and animal crossings for the wii. smile.gif

Accessories don't get warranty to be honest. Even games too. Its too small to be insured in the first place. It also presents high risk.

WTA what is the latest retail price of Wii console. Saw in Maxsoft website stating $199.99. I assume that is in US Dollar so around RM600?
Any shop in Johor Bahru carry stock?
I know Malaysia Wii is region-locked as NTSC-U, but some NTSC-J games I'd like to play will never be released in NTSC-U e.g. Super Robot Wars Neo; so besides getting a NTSC-J Wii or a modded Wii what other option do I have?

Hi,

I need to buy an AC adapter (220V) since I fried mine (110V) due to malfunction voltage converter. Didn't know that the Nintendo Kiosk in MV Jusco is gone for a long time now. Where else can I get this adapter immediately? Thanks.

sorry, i'm new here. here are some questions:

1) is there any difference between "official Malaysian one" with the one that stated "Wii Console (US)" ?
2) will there be any difficulties in buying games in the future?
3) whats the difference of modded and unmodded..

yeah..i'm noob that way..hehe..

thanks to those who help to clarify these! rclxms.gif

Well, the difference would be that the Official Malaysian version comes with a 3 months warranty from the Official Nintendo Distributor of Malaysia. But, it still works as a US console.

As long as u stick to US games, you're fine.

You can refer to my Nintendo Wii FAQ for the difference on Modded and Unmodded.

I am also looking forward to purchase a new WII set with two console..anyone can give some recommendation? Saw some price drop at lelong(688-850) but not sure which seller is good..
Also, one of the seller at lelong posted a 500GB HD with over 100 games titles.. how to plug in this external HD and play those games inside it?
Appreciate your feedback and PM me for the best price and seller which you guys recommending, thanks in advance.

Be aware that the seller is selling you a modded Wii. I'd advise sticking with buying an original US Wii since you can be 100% sure that every game you buy will work. Plus you can download more old games from the Virtual Console...

Hi,

Not an avid gamer, so i do not know anything about consoles and stuffs..

Am thinking to get a Wii for my wife...

So been looking around, and saw most sold are Wii (US) version...what does this means? is this the standard official model sold here?

Will that have incompatibility with any games sold here?

Btw, where is the best official place in Subang/PJ that I can get an original set?

Please enlighten me..

I think this thread has already outlived its usefulness now that official Wii set is pretty much widely available. Any Wii related questions can still be posted in the pinned Wii thread.
