For me I'll take the beam rifle + heat hawk. The beam rifle kills with a single shot (direct hit of course) while the heat hawk still retains its function of cutting through gundams as shown by Bernie.

Beam sabres might be easier to use in a melee situation due to it's relatively weightless blade; but if you let your enemy come that close, you're screwed anyway with either beam sabres or heat hawks.

Come to think about it, it doesn't really make sense for the Hizack to choose btw one beam weapon only. The beam rifle is powered by e-pacs, not directly fed from the reactor.

lol....ginn needs more love...
but i can see why it happens though....
the SEED franchise focused too much on it's gundam/astray unit(so called good guys ) rather than the monnoeye unit....
maybe it needs a spin off OVA like 0083 to focus more on grunt unit can kick ass big time rather than just being a canon fodder that stands and get shot down...

Lol Whut Ginn has quite alot of limelight thanks to Seed Astray series.. Heard of Mikail Orange Ginn and Gai from Astray Blue. Astray R has loads of Ginn variants too.. Those Astray short anime did show a High Mobility Ginn doing more than just standing and dying..

Well to be fair even in 0083 Zaku FII has always been cannon fodder in the show... No Zaku II though out the series ever made a remarkable kill.
