Then again, that battle was kinda shit even though it was fun seeing a Gundam get thrashed... A bit like Athrun's IJ vs Destiny where he pwned the opponent in one move. Come on, at least give us a rough brawl complete with battlescars and bulletholes.

Still pretty early to say whether 00 will end up like Wing or not.

From what I've read, 00 still doesn't have a main plot except the constant attempts by the 3 factions to capture and defeat the Gundams, which of course are doomed to fail because of Gundam-pwn-all circumstances. We have no idea who the Gundams are fighting for (yes, they're on the CB's side but who exactly is CB?); and the idea of ending wars with violence is a bit dumb as they are creating more wars. In fact, this time round the Gundams seem to be on the evil side. I'm still not used to seeing Gundams acting like the devil's pawns.

If anything, the CBs seem more like GSD's LOGOS who aspire to create wars so that they can churn out more weapons (and more Gunpla for Bandai).

Character wise, tsk tsk tsk... who's the main protagonist? Setsuna doesn't seem like one, nor does Lockon. Allelujah and Tiera are simply crackheads who go AAARRRRGGGHHHHH in battle and appear to be more evil than other pilots. Same case with the Trinity trio.

If 00 is going to follow Wing, season 2 might be the one where the Gundam pilots realise CB's evil intentions, and end up rebelling against them hence fighting the Trinity Trio. That's my guess.

Agree about the part regarding Graham's battle. Yet I don't like how the GN armour can block everything... Graham pumped so many shots and none of them made any damage. It's just like how I disliked the Antarctica battle between Heero and Zechs where Tallgeese was already pinning down HA and slashing the cockpit. The beam should have gone straight through and vaporised Heero... Same case with GX where Garrod got shot so many times by the Frost brothers but didn't receive much damage too.

Oh well... it's becoming more and more likely that CB will be the antagonist. I just don't see the original 4 gundams being portrayed as baddies, coupled with the fact that the Thrones have a typically evil design; it's very likely that Setsuna and pals will fight vs the Trinity dudes in season 2.

Bandai will probably roll out new gunpla by:
1. Giving Setsuna and pals new toys
2. Another new CB faction... maybe a 5-man team? Hehe...5 gundams... milk every profit !!
3. The earth factions design their own gundams. I'd rather see them come out with kickass monoeyes like improved (and bulked up) Flags/Hellions.

Blame Mikhail for overconfidence hehe... He never expected the hidden gatlings to pop up.

And of course, there's no indestructible Gundanium/GN armour/Phase Shift/Plot armour in 0080

WZC is overdramatic... never liked it, never will.

Wing Zero is another overpowered machine with it's virtually unlimited rifles. That spinning beam attack annoys me every time I watch it.
00's pretty much the same way as grunts seem to stand still and get killed, at least in the early episodes. Good thing that they improved and actually fought with tactics hence managed to capture the Gundams, only to be foiled by the plot.

Lacus the popstar? No, even she needed Kira to exert some violence.

It's a trend in series where only a gundam can beat a gundam.

In Seed we saw ZAFT reverse engineer the GAT-Xs and eventually churn out their own ZGMFs.
In Wing we saw Trieze and Romfellor churn out Epyon.

I seriously don't see why Bandai wouldn't want to give the earth factions gundams to sell gunpla and toys, although I'd like to see more monoeyes.

It's kinda dumb anyway, as Hathaway was executed by Bright in the end for staging a rebellion.
Meh... Hathaway was like Katz in CCA... little brat got attracted by a spiky chick and ended up following his heart more than his head, hence endangering himself and his mates.

Penelope and Xi look overdramatically designed for me... don't like extravagant stuff hehe... And Xi in F90/91? I didn't see any in F90 manga, nor in the RF91 Silhouette. There's definitely no signs of it in F91 movie anyway.

The recent AoZ designs are even worse, especially stuff like the Rick Diaz Stutzer, Woundwort, and other addons/MAs. It's hard to believe that AoZ era has so many powerful stuff when Zeta's mecha seems less owning.

Hizacks look seriously good. In fact, most grunts that get blown up easily look good... best example being Zaku II.

I like Wing but I'm way past the young kid stage
No doubt that I like UC especially the complexity of the storyline and characters, but most of the time the endings aren't really my cup of tea as they feel rushed. This is not limited to Tomino's works as most animes that I've watched before have endings which don't satisfy me.

Model enthusiast... haha... I've a friend who's like that... buy chun models without knowing the story or even the pilot.

Well not exactly GM but since it's manufactured by Earth and AE(mainly Zeonic dudes) it probably uses quite a lot of Earth tech. The only thing that resembles the GM is the torso, and yet it's not a direct copy either. The Hizack, like it's name, is based more on the Zaku than a GM.

For me I'll take the beam rifle + heat hawk. The beam rifle kills with a single shot (direct hit of course) while the heat hawk still retains its function of cutting through gundams as shown by Bernie.

Beam sabres might be easier to use in a melee situation due to it's relatively weightless blade; but if you let your enemy come that close, you're screwed anyway with either beam sabres or heat hawks.

Come to think about it, it doesn't really make sense for the Hizack to choose btw one beam weapon only. The beam rifle is powered by e-pacs, not directly fed from the reactor.

00 is getting more and more overboard with the designs. Even Astrays don't have such big backpacks.

Anyway, I've just finished 0079 novel during the past week while my internet was dead. It's quite a good read, although it's apparent that Tomino isn't the greatest writer in the world as I felt that there were several areas that could have been better elaborated.

Here are some parts which I found worth-mentioning:
1. Amuro kicked the bucket in a Tomino-esque way... One minute he was kicking Zeonic butts and a second later he got gunned down by a random grunt. But such greatness Amuro's powers became the moment he died, that he managed to influence every main character in the novel to fight for his dreams in creating a future for newtypes.

2. Char started off brightly, but towards the end his character became unfocused. From someone who was hell bent on achieving his aims by hook or by crook, he simply turned into a simple minded 'hero' towards the end. Pfffhhhh...

3. No Zeong... No Z'Gok... No Gelgoog All Char got apart from his kickass Zaku was a Rick Dom, and in fact he did so much shittier in the Dom. At least he managed to kick ass in his Red Zaku.

And where was the invasion of Jaburo? I want aquatic Zeon suits !!! I want Z'Goks !!

4. Lalah got reduced to a simple character that was killed off within 2 chapters. Her Elmeth was brought down far too easily. In the anime she died because she wanted to stop Amuro from fighting with Char, but in the novel she died like every other pilot.

And her influence towards Amuro and Char's rivalry wasn't as great as the anime. Char seemed to get over her quite quickly when he got hooked up with Kycilla's secretary called Margaret (something like that); while Amuro had Sayla all over his mind. Even if Amuro did think of Lalah sometimes but it was more like a regret over killing a fellow newtype than the actual spiritual connection in the anime.

5. Gihren = f**king badass Stupid death though... such as badass antagonist but got killed so easily towards the end.

6. No Guntank for Hayato... this time round he got the same Guncannon as Kai. Both Kai and Hayato became powerful pilots, and even Kai developed newtype powers towards the end.

7. Zeon was actually the winner in the end. EFSF's entire space armada got wiped out, while the fall of Zabi meant that Char gained control of Zeon and if things were to go as planned, he had Amuro's blessing to create a new empire for newtypes; hence fulfilling Zeon Deikum's aspirations.

8. No Gouf Ramba Ral was reduced to a secret police sheriff instead of a kickass pilot. And no Gyan too... M'quve was just a simple commander without piloting any suits.

9. Amuro "banged" Sayla... Pretty much more than once I presume.

10. No Kycilla headshot... damn it. Char killed her by dropping her to the ground when she was standing on his Rick Dom's palm. Talk about crappy deaths.

11. There's a second pilot who used the Elmeth... another newtype called Kusko. Again, she got too emotionally involved with Amuro and got killed too. Her role wasn't that important anyway... just another pilot in Kycilla's newtype corps who was under Char's command. Speaking of which, Char's best friend in the novel should probably be Chalia who piloted the BrawBro... both of them had the same frequency of thoughts, kinda like soul mates.

Well it wasn't exactly clear about their first intimate encounter as the actual sexual act just couldn't be described without being too explicit; yet it was pretty obvious that they did something 'unusual' that very first night. Such extreme foreplay and whining for a hot blooded boy without going all the way? Not likely...

Even in Belthorchika's Children which started off with an erotic description about Amuro and Belthorchika, there wasn't exactly a direct elaboration about the sexual act. But of course they did something then, otherwise there wouldn't be the newtype baby towards the end.

The lucky charm part was quite dumb... no wonder Amuro kicked the bucket.

Oh yeah... forgot to add, Hayato got killed too by Char, after firing stupidly at him when they made contact. If you're not the most powerful newtype in the world, never aim your gun at the red one.

I'd recommend this novel to hardcore Gundam fans even though I felt that it wasn't as well written as Belthorchika's Children. Nevertheless it provides a slightly different perspective to the original events that happened throughout UC0079, and of course there were more character elaboration and dynamism in it. Come on, every gundam fan should know the very beginning of such a wonderful universe.

Even Gihren's obsession for power was given much insight, hence making him a more complete character instead of just a purely evil psychopath who kills for fun like Bask Om.
