You gotta use iTunes to transfer songs. Go to http://www.apple.com/support and scroll thru the bottom and find on your right Services & Programs and click on Register My Product or you can simply go to http://register.apple.com

DO you ever read product manuals? I'm not going to be an E-knight or anything, but please read the manuals of things you buy/receive... and even if you stole it, you could still get the manuals online.

I think the problem here is not about the threadstarter not reading the manual or not, it is about his/her difficulty transferring song into the Shuffle. From his/her post, iTunes bailed out whenever it is clicked, so he/she is looking for other alternatives other than iTunes to get his/her songs into the Shuffle.
Unfortunately though, i think the only way to remedy this is to diagnose why iTunes bailed out when selected. That troubleshooting, only you can do, threadstarter.

Uninstall iTunes, turn off your Anti Virus and reinstall iTunes. Also, what OS are you using?
