You can wait and expect the Prius cows to come home and it will never happen.

Look at what happen to the previous Hybrid line up

- Camry Hybrid - Discontinued after the latest Camry is launched. Now only left 2.5L NA engine. No more Camry Hybrids.
- Prius? No more Prius after Prius C. The last Prius was the Prius XW30, launched in 2009. No more new Prius after that.
Singapore already started using 4th Gen Prius and their latest offering is the Prius+ 7 seater on their website. BTW they also have Voxy Hybrid.

Now only left Cross Hybrid currently. UMW Claimed 40% of the Cross sold is Hybrids in 2022.
Upcoming is Innova Xenix Hybrid. This will be interesting; at last they are getting rid of the underpowered 2.0L truck engine and chassis.

The Malaysian mentality is - If Myvi and petrol is cheap, why should I consider hybrids. More maintenance than my Myvi cool2.gif .

Again the malaysian Mindset. Thinking Battery and inverters will straight away DIE instantly after end of warranty. LOL laugh.gif laugh.gif

According to Google, some Prius battery can last up to 200K Miles and beyond. Thats 322K KM mind you. This is because the earlier Prius uses NIMH but the latest model uses either Li-ION or NIMH.

And FYI, UMW Toyota is offering 8 years unlimited mileage and optional extension of 2 years warranty for the inclusion of battery and inverter. Terms and condition applied.
Total 10 years . Long enough for an average Malaysian car user which change car every say 5 years? rolleyes.gif

Low resale Value is man made by dealers because of the mentality of Malaysian dislike anything super high tech which creates the low RV. Thats why I said earlier "If Myvi and petrol is cheap, why should I consider hybrids. More maintenance than my Myvi" - Which is true malaysian Mindset BUT a false fact on maintenance costs.

Enough said. Your shallow mindset is yours. My opinions is mine.

Dont fret bro. There is another alternative now on sale. Honda Civic e:HEV RS. Only difference is the battery pack is smaller than Prius+ 5 seater.

Can't seem to like the Honda hev as its not a phev apparently and I'm worried about the smaller pack and it looks like the full Honda engine has been installed. No offence but it looks more like Honda slapped on battery packs without much thought. Even the interior looks the same as old ice cars

You need to treat PHEV almost like an EV. Does your current place allows for a charger to be installed? Otherwise a normal HEV is a much practical choice

Yep I own a landed property which I can install a charger if I want to.

The thing is I'm located in Kuching and everywhere I go it's within the range of an electric motor powered by battery.

I'm now in dilemma to buy the prius 2023 or wait for a BEV sedan since my commute is short that I may not need a ice section of the car. Did so much research and dived into reddit and the general consensus for phev is that if you are worried about range or go on road trips (like most Americans do) then get a phev.

Anyone can chip in from a Malaysian point of view if I should get a phev vs bev?

if you dont intend to do any long range then BEV is a better choice, less complicated than a PHEV

for sedan, you can wait for Ioniq 6 next year. but its not gonna be cheap
