Guys,

Any recommendation for dash cam / helmet cam?
For recording riding trip up to 12 hours per day.

Not meant for socmed content creation.
Just want to play back certain scene, or incidents.

Those Insta360 / GoPro has lousy battery life but good quality video.

For fixed cam on front / rear bike, view point is a little low but no worry about battery life.

Haiya... difficult when over ANALysing this...

Any recommendation?

Get a fixed front/rear cam. Can check out the HP M500. I'm personally using a Blueskysea B1M but the HP seems better.

I'm using hp m500
Good video quality

As for helmet cam, recent reviews lean
more towards to DJI action 3.

GoPro seems to have some freezing/hang issues when it is hot

I'm using an Akaso 7 V2. Audio still sucks. But video is decent. 1 battery can run for about 3-4 hours on 720p. Using with the dash cam mode (looping) on the camera. I can plug it to my usb charger and can record indefinatly. It was cheap. Paid slightly over 500 after discounts. And can use for other action recording.

The akaso 7 is waterproof itself so don't need another waterproof housing.

But for convenience and always on. Only way is to get a built in system.

My solo riding trip so far had been pretty "long",
start early, pop by places etc., hang out etc.

12 hours is the max I need to provision.

I am assuming the charger is a USB power bank?

Yes.
That's one of the reason I use the dashcam

The main reason is that I need rear video footage as well.

Of course you can. You can buy the usb charger online for cheap..usually between 30 to 40bux and wire it in yourself.

There are a few ways you can go about it.

Find a switched power line and tap it and use a relay to power the USB charger. That's the safest way to do it. And when your bike is off, you don't need to worry about power drain.

I have my switched relay powering up an extra aux fusebox where all the other accessories terminate to (aux lights, 2nd usb pigtail..etc). So everything has its own fuse. Once I turn ignition off, everything shuts off. I am planning to change out the normal relay to a timed delay relay...but lazy me, have not gotten off my butt to do it yet.

The separate relay and fusebux allows me to separate the circuit of the powered accessories from the rest of the bike electronics. So easier to troubleshoot if things go south in the future. The relay gets power from the battery. The switch power line, just turns on/off the relay so it isolates your main wiring from the load of your accessories . This has a side benefit of also not having a mess of wires terminate to your battery.

Just to note, if you use usb to power your action cam, it won't be waterproof as you need to keep the charging port door open. So for long term, a built in system is better.

My m500 videos are ok2 in the day and blurry at best at night. Also due to naked bike the wind noise is captured quite strongly.

Lol

You are comparing a rm600 product Vs rm1200 product

I was using a rm1xx product before using hp m500.
I'm very happy with the hp.

Place your remote somewhere where the wind is blocked by the meter probably. Or add a small windshield. Yeah the video is ok-ok only at beat, number plate beyond 5 meters are pretty much illegible.

No choice, because there really isn't that many models for motorcycle dashcam. If want to compare same price, Rm500 motorcycle dashcam vs rm500 car dashcam, the video quality difference is heaven and earth.

If you are looking at this range.
Top up a bit.
You can consider scam sj8 pro.
Good video quality.

Reliable.
I was using this daily ( ride motorbike to work) and on weekends I use it when I MTB.
Was using it for about 4 years plus before retiring it.

I have the Akaso 7 v2. Cheap under 600. But it crapped out on me completely after 1 year. Audio was crap...bordering on unusable. Visuals are ok. Stabilizatio not the greatest but decent.

Spend more and buy a better action cam.

But for daily use, leceh.
Hence I just mount it on my helmet.

However when I MTB I'll use this chest mount to get the actual feel through the video

Haha...the atom is front heavy. Adding a camera on the chin bar gets it even more unbalanced. That's probably your issue.... Not the overall weight.

Haha. The Atom is one of those helmets that look good on paper and even in person......but after you use it, you know why it only cost 500.

I can't be bothered with selling mine. It fell apart. But for what's it's worth that top vent on the Atom is gooding. Can really feel airflow on your head.

Brave 6 Plus/Red Buffalo Storm 450-600++, SJ8 Pro seems to cost about 900+ on Shopee and Lazada...I think that is more than a bit of top up.

Ok la, let's say I got bit more in my budget...found a few people selling their GoPro Hero 7 Blacks used for around 700...would that be more value for money compared to getting a new SJ8 Pro? However as the Hero 7's battery isn't removable I'm concerned about how long it can last...?

Make ur own with epoxy putty to match the curves of ur helmet....mount on chin bar to the side if u dont want to cover vent.

Utub has vids on how to do it.....adjust according to where u wanna mount it

Budget ?

Best action cam now is DJI action 3 or 4, insta360 one rs, GoPro 11 or 12.

Cam mount without blocking the chin vent, easy.
You just need to play around with the mounting.
Mine is mounted at the front side.
