Current build:
CPU: R7 2700x
Mobo: MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON

Price from Shopee:
5800X3D - RM1800
7700X - RM1888

The new gen is only bout 90 bucks more. But then I'd have to get a new mobo and new rams. And also new OS since current one is tied to my current motherboard.

I'm leaning towards getting the 5800x3D but what do you think?

5800X3D is the best AMD gaming cpu right?
3D cache is a real game changer after all.

ehh I believe you've answered your own question
if you go zen 4 you'd have to grab new mobo and RAM which are super expensive as of today.

plus 5800X3D is a very solid CPU which rivals the CURRENT gen in terms of gaming performance!

for pure gaming, yeah 5800x3d. even AMD tak masukan that cpu comparison to its on 7000 lineup.

for workstation, try something which have more cores also.
3900x should be ok if cant afford 7900x.

Are you facing issues with your current build? What performance gains are you looking for if you upgrade your parts?
Or is it just a case of itchy backside to upgrade...

Go for it. The performance uplift in games can be considerable, especially the 1 percent & 0.1 percent lows. You won't have to worry about the CPU being the bottleneck, as the 5800X3D scales up nicely with faster GPUs.

Yeah I sort of did but, hard to ignore that 7700x is not all that expensive. But yeah AM5 new board and DDR5.

No issues with current build. Just that, I've been holding off from playing latest games because of having an old system.

Currently 2700x and RX580. Can actually still play Witcher 3 at 3440x1440 but yeah, can barely keep up.

Then I would suggest upgrading parts that are compatible with your current MOBO la. Why upgrade everything when there's usable parts? Just upgrade those that are lagging/obsolete dy.

Save money, skip this year and wait for zen5 next year... amd introducing big little arch and intel pulak introducing chiplets. New architecture in not too far away.

Plus x470 already so old and likely out of warranty. Who knows after upgrade cpu then board kaboom... conlanfirm emo.

7700X is really a joke CPU. Perform similarly to 12700k but have to use the more expensive DDR5, X670 MOBO also not cheap. Maybe that's why 12700k price doesn't drop even after 13700k start selling.

X470 MSI Pro Carbon is a good MOBO, it have one of the best VRM. I think won't have problem handling 5800X3D. Money saved from buying MOBO and RAM can use to get better GPU.

Where can compare like dat la bro, one is x800 class and another x700 class you should compare 5800X3D with 7800X3D baru ngam. If just look at pricing its like comparing Proton X70 with Honda HRV just coz they are similar priced but actually from different class segment.

if gaming. also depends on what gpu u are using. gpu also important. if u are using a low end gpu then upgrading the cpu is useless.

Yeah, they should be restocking pretty soon. Also, the price for this CPU has dropped well below MSRP in the US.

But you won't have the same gaming performance uplift with 5900x, more for productivity. I also recently upgraded from 3600 to 5800x3d. Reason for upgrade was that R5 3600 was too limiting for 6800xt. But now you also have 5700x3d as a more affordable option.

It's not all that slower than 5800x3d on gaming but a lot faster in productivity (I use my PC on work more than gaming) so I guess the 5900x is an obvious one for me.

Yeah my 2700x was bottlenecking my 7800xt too much so I had to change it.

Funny thing is my old PSU can take my 7800xt upgrade but when I changed to 5900x, I had to change the PSU too

It was a Hydro 650. No issues when I switched to 7800xt but when I changed to 5900x, as after powering it, the GPU wouldn't boot, GPU fans not spinning.

I'm currently using CM 850
